Super Rugby 2013: 5 NZ backs to watch out for
Who should you keep your eye on in Super Rugby?

The annual Super Rugby tournament is finally here, and after the Aussie teams gave us a good show in Round 1, it’s time to take a look at some of the most exciting Kiwi players to look out for throughout this year’s tournament.
Ben Smith (Highlanders)
Ben Smith had a phenomenal 2012 Super Rugby season, followed by some great performances in the Black jersey. Ben Smith has an unrelenting ability to break the defensive line, and his attacking prowess will be pivotal for the Highlanders attack in 2013.
Aaron Smith (Highlanders)
The quick-reacting halfback of the Highlanders has a breakout season with last year, and took that fine form onto the international stage with the All Blacks (despite some off-field shenanigans). For the 2013 Super Rugby competition, Smith will be at the helm of getting the Highlanders on the front foot, and surely finding his way over the tryline himself.
Robbie Fruean (Crusaders)
Robbie Fruen has to be one of the unluckiest New Zealand players. The 1.9m, 110 kg centre has been a standout star for the Crusaders since his move to the franchise in 2010, although has never gotten the All Black call-up. Fruean will be looking to stamp his authority in 2013.
Tim Nainai Williams (Chiefs)
Tim Nainai Williams is one of the unsung heroes of the Chiefs. The 23-year old has found his home in the fullback and wing positions, and has added a level of tactical kicking and fleet-footed antics to the Hamilton-based side. Williams should find his feet and some greater appreciation in 2013, especially in the absence of some of last year’s attacking options, ala Sonny Bill Williams.
Andre Taylor (Hurricanes)
How Andre Taylor never found his way into the All Black squad is a mystery. The 25-year old had a phenomenal Super Rugby tournament in 2012, and seemed to break any defensive line at will. If Taylor can keep up his breathtaking form in 2013, there’s no reason he shouldn’t be pulling a black jersey over his head sometime soon.
