The Six Nations hit its second round this weekend, and provided some international rugby action, while the USA Sevens wrapped up, with the Blizbokke coming out on top. Meanwhile, the Southern Hemisphere prepares for the Super Rugby season, which gets underway on Friday, 15 February 2013.

Wales 16 – 6 France

Wales managed a momentous win over the French, who barely looked to compete against the men in red. While France never found their momentum, the Welsh were firing on all cylinders, particularly the backline, who strung together a great cross-field chip kick, which saw George North collect and crash over for a spectacular try.

Scotland 34 – 10 Italy

Scotland came out strong after being defeated by England in Twickenham last week, while the Italian side which shocked France in Rome the same weekend just didn’t look the same. Tim Visser managed to cross over for the Scots, while Matt Scott, Sean Lamont and Stuart Hogg, who scored a fabulous 80m try, also grabbed 5-pointers for themselves. Alessandro did find some redemption for the Italians, when he received a brilliant pass from captain Sergio Parisse to dive over the line.

England 12 – 6 Ireland

England sealed a tight 12-6 victory over Ireland in Dublin on Saturday, that, while not the most comfortable margin, saw England find themselves sitting at the top of the Six Nations log. The weather resulted in a try-less affair, that instead came down to the boots of Owen Farrell and Ronan O’Gara, who exchanged penalties throughout the match, with England having the advantage due to Wales’ infringements.

Blitzbokke win cup at Las Vegas 7s

The Blitzbokke had a number of great performances in the Las Vegas stop of the HSBC Sevens World Series, and managed to overcome some tough opponents to meet New Zealand in the final. South Africa had a phenomenal first half, racking up 40-0 against the men in black. Despite a resurgence from NZ in the second half, South Africa held on for a 40-21 win, grabbing the cup after consistent performances over the weekend.
