Socks are not exactly things you’d expect to evolve over the years. Surely there’s not that much that can change with the good ole classic foot-huggers that keep us warm and comfy each day?

Well, there is a lot actually, and a local Cape Town company called Sexy Socks is delivering the next step in forward thinking sock-stuff, and we got feet-on with some pairs to see what the fuss is all about.

Sexy Socks is a start-up owned by Dave Hutchison, a young entrepreneur who just wants to do something cool and help others while doing it, and you’ve got to admire that. The company provides stretchy, fitted, eco-friendly, and of course, sexy, socks for the lads (and ladies) in SA. Oh, and for the “help others” part, the company shares a social mission where it provides free school socks for every pair sold. A-sock-for-a-sock, if you will.

As for Sexy Socks’ range itself, they’re bamboo, which means they’re anti-bacterial, anti-odour and soft as a soccer player’s face. The brand features some pretty wild and interesting designs and colours – everything from Where’s Wally-inspired feet huggers to moustache-laden foot holsters are available, and we took some for a test-drive.

Often when you read about the “comfort” and “softness” of materials and clothing, you pass it off as nothing but marketing lingo, but it’s hard to deny the fact that Sexy Socks have an undisputed softness to them.

They really do have that subtle and comfy feel to them that doesn’t require constant foot-on-foot rubbing and scratching from itchy fibres. Bamboo is the read deal.

What’s also awesome about Sexy Socks is that while the designs are vivid and exciting, they actually go excellently with a smart suit or formal attire. I personally took the navy and white striped Sailors for a spin at a wedding, which went down really well and caught the attention of some aspiring Sexy-adopters.
