3 big movie releases

The weekend is around the corner and if you’re looking for a relaxed trip to the cinemas this weekend, and there’s a lot of choice on offer with some big releases launching this Friday, 15 May, so here’s your handy guide on what you should be watching:

Mad Max: Fury Road

One of the most explosive and highly-anticipated films drops this weekend, as Mad Max: Fury Road rampages into cinemas across SA. The film is directed, produced and co-written by George Miller, and the fourth film of Miller’s Mad Max franchise. The first film of the series in 30 years, Fury Road features actor Tom Hardy as Mad Max,  who is also joined by Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. It looks massive, loud, brutal, and we can’t wait to see this one.

Pitch Perfect 2

After the runaway success of the first film, the release of Pitch Perfect 2 seemed inevitable. Anna Kendrick and the rest of the gang return with their undeniable onscreen charm for some new infectious musical numbers. The sequel sees the Barden Bellas enter an international singing competition, but they’ll have to raise their game if they’re to compete on the world stage.

MenStuff was lucky enough to attend a pre-screening of Pitch Perfect 2, and our verdict is that the film definitely brings some of the same charm, humour and musical prowess of its predecessor, but it lacks a little magic the second time around. You can read a full in-depth review of Pitch Perfect 2 over on WomenStuff.

You’re Not You

For the drama-lovers out there, You’re Not You stars Hilary Swank, Emmy Rossum and Josh Duhamel in an emotional story that will captivate you from the outset. The film is centered on a classical pianist (Swank) who has been diagnosed with ALS and the brash college student (Rossum) who becomes her caregiver. You’re Not You explores how these strangers – brought together by the most challenging circumstances – are able to unlock the best in each other.
