Which movies are hitting our big-screens this weekend? MenStuff gives you the low-down on what’s what.
The first of February’s movie releases arrive this weekend, but which ones should you care about (or at least know that you’re being dragged to).
The Finest Hours
Over the years, Disney has become a reliable source of inspirational dramatisations of true events, and The Finest Hours is the studio’s next such effort, as the film is loosely based on the Pendleton rescue mission attempt in 1952 by Coast Guard ships. Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, Ben Foster, Holliday Grainger, John Ortiz and Eric Bana lead the cast. With such a strong team behind the project and even stronger material, The Finest Hours could prove to be a surprise hit of the year.
Spotlight
Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, and Rachel McAdams star in Spotlight, the true story of one of the biggest cover-ups in modern times. An investigative dramatic thriller that delves into how the Boston Globe Spotlight’ team uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation and cover-up within the local Catholic Archdiocese, shaking the entire Catholic Church to its core. Their year-long investigation uncovers a decades-long cover-up at the highest levels of Boston’s religious, legal, and government establishments, resulting in a wave of revelations around the world.
The Choice
It’s almost Valentine’s Day, so you knew this was coming. Based on Nicholas Sparks’ 2007 novel of the same name, The Choice is a romantic journey about two neighbours who fall in love at their first meeting setting their well-planned lives on a new course. After a whirlwind courtship, they marry. But, is it happily ever after and will love triumph, as one of them is forced to make the most important choice of their life, alone?
