The weekend is upon us and there are some epic sports encounters that we should earmark, including Bafana Bafana’s next AFCON battle, a final fight for the Proteas, and a clash of European rugby giants.

South Africa vs Senegal (AFCON football)

Friday, 19:00

Bafana Bafana face an uphill battle to qualify for the knockout stages after slipping to a somewhat unfortunate 3-1 defeat against Algeria in their opening Group C match.

Senegal, 2-1 winners over Ghana in the first round of matches, can be expected to pose a stiff physical test for Ephraim Mashaba’s men at Estadio de Mongomo but Phala remains confident that South Africa can secure a much-needed victory, highlighting their pace and athleticism as key attributes.

South Africa vs West Indies (ODI Cricket)

Sunday, 10:00

After winning the second One-Day International by a colossal margin, host South Africa will take on West Indies in the third ODI in PE, and while some of the Proteas’ big-guns will be rested, its still sure to be a crackers once again.

Windies skipper Denesh Ramdin would hope that his team come up with a significantly better performance this time around in order to stay alive in the competition.

Clermont vs Saracens (EPC Rugby)

Sunday, 17:15

Clermont-Auvergne and Saracens put their Champions Cup credentials on the line at a sold-out Stade Marcel Michelin in the Pool 1 decider.

Saracens have won the last two meetings between these sides including a remarkable 46-6 triumph in last year’s semi-final as well as victory at home in round 1 of this season’s campaign.

The winner in France will progress to the quarter-finals while every bonus point will be vital with the losers facing elimination from the tournament.
