The weekend is here and there are some epic encounters to keep you eye on, including some massive international rugby Tests, more intense Premier League clashes, and the on-going battle between the Proteas and Black Caps.

France vs England (International rugby friendly)

Saturday, 21:00

France and England will meet for their 101st Test between the two nations, and France will be eager to show that they can topple to 2003 world champions following their narrow loss last week. Les Bleus will also be full of confidence as they welcome back arguably their most talented player in Wesley Fofana, and thankfully at inside centre rather than out on the wing. Fofana said on Thursday that he “strongly believes” France will win and his slick sidestepping ability should give England’s Luther Burrell plenty to contend with. England has also opted for some changes, with George Ford taking over the No. 10 jersey, Jonathan Joseph getting another run at outside centre, Mike Brown at fullback and Tom Youngs going into the front row. A lot of emotion will be shown during this final World Cup warm-up.

Sharks vs Golden Lions (Currie Cup rugby)

Saturday, 17:05

Last time the Sharks played against the Golden Lions they were handed a heavy defeat in the semi-final of last year’s Currie Cup. This weekend see the two teams going at each other again, with the Lions boosting two wins from two games and the Sharks with one lost and one win. The Sharks have shown a much more improve performance last weekend against the EP Kings in Durban but against a Lions team they will have to be at their best if they want to win this one. The Lions have been with the Blue Bulls the form team in the Currie Cup and one can expect a great match come Saturday.

Blue Bulls vs Western Province (Currie Cup rugby)

Saturday, 19:10

The Blue Bulls had the perfect start to the Currie Cup this year and are facing there arch rivals Western Province this weekend. The Blue Bulls have won both their games so far with bonus points and sits on top of the log with WP just one point behind. WP have the bragging rights in wins over the Blue Bulls with four wins in there last meetings. The cape side lost their captain Juan De Jongh to injury last week, which will see Johnny Kotze coming in for him at centre. It should be a physical encounter that will also give those fringe players another opportunity to get on Heyneker Meyer’s radar.

South Africa vs New Zealand (ODI cricket)

Sunday, 10:00

South Africa won the first ODI on Wednesday and will have the momentum behind them as they head into the second match against New Zealand on Sunday in Centurion. Hopefully the Proteas can put behind the snafu of this week, which saw the team’s bowling instructions being slipped under the wrong hotel door, accidentally exposing their plans to the Kiwis. Despite the initial win, South Africa weren’t overly convincing, as SA only managed 26 runs down the ground and lost both Morne van Wyk and David Miller to the short ball. They’ll need to be more clinical in Pretoria this weekend.

Everton vs Manchester City (English Premier League football)

Sunday, 17:00

Manchester City have made a devastating start to the season: six goals scored, none conceded, and looking absolutely irresistible so far. But trips to Goodison Park are notoriously tough, and with Everton unbeaten in their two matches – the latter of which was a 3-0 win away at Southampton – confidence will be running high in Roberto Martinez’s squad, particularly as it seems they’ve finally beaten Chelsea off in the fight to keep John Stones.

I’m very keen to see how John Stones plays against Man City. With the attention from Chelsea I hope it hasn’t gotten to his head. Lukaku has had a great start to the season, hopefully he can put a few away against City.

I agree. I hope he had a cracker of a game but still moves to Chelsea. We need him.
