Save and Savour with Half Price Tapas at HQ
Enjoy an affordable night out with your mates or a date at HQ this week.

I know it’s not the weekend just yet, but now seemed as good a time as any to remind you about an incredible deal you might be missing out on in Cape Town. If you’re looking for a place to get the weekend started early with your mates or a special lady (or lad) in your life then HQ is that place. Why? Because they offer an awesome drinks and cocktails menu and the entire tapas (or bar snacks) menu is half price on Thursdays! Yes, every Thursday you can tuck into delicious gourmet tapas while you talking nonsense with your mates or trying to impress a special someone. Talk about a cheap date!
Located in the Cape Town CBD, HQ is well-known for its incredibly simply, but brilliant steak, chips and salad menu so when I was invited to try out their tapas offering, I was intrigued to see if their bar snacks were just as good as their signature dish. The girlfriend and I went through to HQ a few weeks ago to sample the menu and enjoy a few drinks so that we could give you the low-down on this awesome special (it’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it!). And, the verdict is – you’ve got to try it!
To get the evening started we decided to order a bottle of wine to share – HQ has an extensive wine menu offering some pretty decent wines at affordable prices, as long as you don’t splash out on a bottle of French champagne of course! From there it was time to tuck into some tasty bites to eat. I really liked that HQ has adapted their menu to cater for the regular half-price tapas nights – you can see the specials price right next to the usual price so there’s no need to do complicated maths after a beer or three.
We tried the Three Cheese Parcels (R50 normal price | R25 half price), Chorizo Chilli Poppers (R70 | R35 ), Lamb Sliders (R86 | R43), and the Sirloin Cubes (R56 | R28) and found it was enough to for 2 people as a light dinner. Of course, we made sure left space for another portion of Sirloin Cubes and Chilli Poppers as there were incredible delicious. The Lamb Sliders are another winner of note. I was very impressed with the portion sizes of the tapas offerings – especially the Lamb Sliders serving because I expected them to give us just three tiny sliders on a plate when in fact we got about 6!
The girlfriend and enjoyed HQ tapas nights so much that we’ve back a few times since to enjoy their tapas menu and tried a few different things on the menu including the Prawns & Mozzarella Spring Rolls (R78 | R39) and the Smoked Chicken Phyllo Puffs (R70 | R35). After a few trips I can confidently say that there are no bad choices on the HQ bar snacks menu.
The restaurant also has a resident DJ that hits the decks later on the evening so you can really make a night of it. Diners can choose to sit at a small table for two near the bear or in the lounge area which offers coffee tables and booth-style couches for larger groups. If you’re going in a large group make sure you book as it can get pretty busy – especially on First Thursdays!
