There are some man-tastic movies hitting South African cinemas this weekend, including a long-awaited comedy sequel, a sports flick, a crime-thriller, and a strange sci-fi movie that’s sure to blow the socks off you.

Dumb and Dumber Too

The movie that’s been two decades in the making is finally here, as Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels team up once again for another idiotic slide into chaos.

The story is set 20 years after the dimwits set out on their first adventure, but this time, they head out in search of one of their long lost children in the hope of gaining a new kidney.

 When the Game Stand Tall

We’re always down for an epic motivational sports movie, and they don’t come any bigger this year than When the Game Stands Tall.

The remarkable journey of legendary football coach Bob Ladouceur, who took the De La Salle High School Spartans from obscurity to a 151-game winning streak that shattered all records for any American sport.

The film stars Jim Caviezel, Michael Chiklis, Alexander Ludwig, Clancy Brown, Laura Dern.

The Drop
14 November

If you’re looking for a tense crime-thriller this weekend, The Drop is likely the choice for you.

Starring Tom Hardy and the late James Gandolfini, The Drop follows lonely bartender Bob Saginowski (Hardy) who is involved in a covert scheme funneling cash to local gangsters — “money drops” — in the underworld of Brooklyn bars.

Under the heavy hand of his employer and cousin, Marv, Bob finds himself in the centre of a robbery gone awry and entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighbourhood’s past, where friends, families, and foes all work together to make a living, no matter the cost.
