How does Turf Games work?
Taking place at Green Point Cricket Club, Turf Games is an accessible functional fitness event, with mixed teams of men and women participating in completing a series of workouts. Unlike many CrossFit competitions, the workout tests programmed at this functional fitness-focused competition are all built around teamwork. Teams are encouraged to figure out how to use their team’s strengths and weaknesses to maximise their team score — all whilst having fun!
The core of the Turf Games workouts are based on key factors including strength, conditioning and power. The organisers say they don’t programme any high-skilled gymnastics or complex Olympic lifting movements to ensure the games stay accessible to a wide range of everyday athletes wanting to join in on the event. According to the Turf Games website; “you won’t be seeing any handstands, muscle ups, overhead squats, max barbell 1RM snatches — just good old fashioned hard work and determination.”

The workouts are designed to be fun, challenging and rewarding all at the same time. If you’ve been training at the gym this year, it’s time to put all that hard graft into practice on the Turf surrounded by Cape Town’s fitness community.
