It’s been a crazy last month or so, where we’ve got our paws on some seriously awesome gadgets and gear, while also getting behind the wheel of some snazzy rides; so to fill you in, here’s what’s been keeping us busy this past month.

On-the-go | Sony XA2 Ultra

Price: R6,699 – Find the best price here.

As far as Sony’s devices go, you always know that you’re going to get a device which punches well above its weight, while demanding only have the price-tag usually associated with flagship devices. The XA2 Ultra doesn’t break that attractive mould, offering a smartphone with a spectacularly large screen, solid battery life, and of course, the camera prowess to back it all up. The 16MP and 8MP cameras on the back and front, respectively, deliver crisp, vivid, and high-res photos even in low-light conditions thanks to an impressive flash. This is a phone for someone who appreciates photography and needs the screen-size to do some on-the-go editing.

Cars | 2018 Nissan Micra

Price: from R233,500

Nissan’s 2018 Micra is more of a revolution than it is an evolution, as the Japanese manufacturer’s pint-sized entry vehicle has been transformed into an eye-catching B-hatch that’ll rival that of the Ford Fiesta and VW Polo. Powered by a 0.9-litre, 3-cylinder turbopetrol engine, there’s no shortage of power with the new Micra, giving it enough oomph and zip to handle any road or highway scenario. Along with the new look, the interior has seen a huge overhaul, with a slick racer-like dashboard and 7-inch colour floating touchscreen display to house all the entertainment and communication options. The new Micra has left its impression on us.

Gaming | FIFA 19

Price: R999 – Find the best price here.

Of course, every September marks the return of FIFA, bringing its improvements and enhancements for another season of virtual football indulgence. Last year’s instalment saw some notable changes, so we expected FIFA 19 to slightly underwhelm (as is the case with a huge jump the year prior), but FIFA 19 has managed to add enough subtle changes to reignite our interest. A noticeable increase in difficulty has done the game wonders, and the new customisable modes (allowing you to only allow goals through headers, for example) is a great addition to spice things up when some friends pop over.

Gear | Puma Hybrid Runner

Price: R1,999 – Find the best price here.

Puma’s NRGY bead technology (which promises to have a higher energy return with each step) piqued our interest earlier this year, and finally getting some feet-on time with the Hybrid Runners has justified the hype. Puma’s ultra-soft sock like uppers feature across the top of the shoe, giving you a really comfy feeling when putting these to the test, but the real difference comes from the springier midsole featuring the NRGY technology. There is a detectable compression and softness with each plant of the foot, and while it’s subtle, it’s a boost that every runner can get behind.

Grooming | MVRCK pomade

Price: R350 – Find the best price here.

Most pomades can feel a bit too sticky or greasy, but MVRCK’s Original Pomade gives you enough texture and hold without feeling like you’ve entered a 90s mafiosa movie. The natural-shine finish and energising agave citrus scent makes you feel like you’ve come straight out of a pampering, and when you’re ready to clean your hair, the water-soluble formula won’t flake and washes out easily with shampoo.
