Can These Smartphone Lenses Replace DSLRs?
Smartphones might have a fight in the camera-quality war thanks to these little accessories!
Professional, amateur, and enthusiast photography has exploded in the last few years – and we’ve got the rapid development of smartphone cameras to thank for that.
There’s no denying that we’ve come a long way from jagged and pixelated VGA resolution shots on terrible cellphone cameras, but despite the impressive progress, it’s almost undisputed that dedicated cameras with a variety of lenses are still the far superior choice. Kickstarter-funded company Moment has provided a little bit of a boost to smartphone cameras that may put that claim to the test, though.
Their lenses usually require a case for a smartphone, and you can interchange between a small subset of lenses depending on what you want to achieve. They’re quick and easy to put on and remove, just needing a small swivel and twist to be locked into place – making it ideal for improving smartphone photos on the fly, and perhaps in a less cumbersome way than traditional camera lenses.
Here’s a more in-depth look at the Moment Lenses by YouTuber Marques Brownlee:
Now, the jury is still out on whether or not this can truly match the performance of traditional cameras and all the equipment they can be modified with. However, it’s clear that the Moment lenses can substantially improve the kind of quality you can get from a smartphone camera sensor. So if you’ve got a smartphone with an already capable camera and want to improve your shots significantly, check out what moment has to offer on their site!
