If you’ve been feeling like you’ve been missing out on the crazy sales the US gets on Black Friday, you can now get involved without leaving SA, or your house for that matter.

Kalahari is throwing its own Black Friday sales, of sorts, offering deals with up to 70% off for 24 hours starting at midnight on Thursday 27 November 2014.

“The benefit of taking Black Friday online is that consumers do not need to stand in queues or get caught in a stampede,” says Liz Hillock, marketing director at kalahari.com.

“The specific deals are still under wraps, but consumers can expect massive savings on electronics, games, books, toys, gadgets and more. Let’s just say, my advice is to visit the site, and come early J,” said Hillock.

Although Black Friday, the Friday following Thanksgiving Day, started as a US tradition, it spread as a global online trend in 2013 when online vendors in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, launched a 24 hour joint sales initiative that saw more than 1.2 million participate in single largest online shopping event in the region.

Regarded as the single biggest shopping day in the US and likened to the Boxing Day sales in many Commonwealth nations, Americans are known to line up from the early hours waiting for their favourite stores to open. In some states and towns, there have been some tragic stampedes and other incidences of violence as shoppers literally go wild for the amazing specials on offer.

The kalahari.com Black Friday sale goes live midnight on Thursday 27 November and closes 23:59 on Friday 28 November 2014.
