Review: Logitech’s Affordable & Stylish G335 Wired Gaming Headset Should Be on Your Radar

Any gamer knows all too well the temptation of wanting to spend all your hard-earned Rands on super cool gaming gear. With so many great specialised gaming keyboards, mouses, and headsets available to choose from, it is easy to drop a chunk of change on premium gaming gear in the blink of an eye. Take, for example, Logitech’s G733 Lightspeed Wireless RGB gaming headset. While it’s worth every penny of its R2,999 price tag, not everyone has the budget or inclination to drop almost three grand on a gaming headset. This is why Logitech decided to drop the all-new Logitech G335 wired gaming headset.

The stylish gaming headset offers gamers an affordable alternative to the premium Logitech G733 Lightspeed Wireless RGB gaming headset. Straight out the box, the new G335 takes plenty of design cues from its bigger sister. It rocks the same curvature design, as well as a similar bold and clean look as the G733. It is, however, a little smaller in size, making it perfect for those with smaller heads. While the G733 features fancy RGB lights and wireless Bluetooth connection, it is also more than double the price of Logitech’s G335 wired gaming headset. Luckily, at a price of just over R1,000, the G335 still offers plenty of premium features designed to improve your gaming experience while giving you that much-wanted ‘cool factor’ many gamers desire.

Right off the bat, the biggest difference between the G733 and G335 is that this new version offers a wired alternative. Fitted with a 3.5mm audio jack, the Logitech G335 wired gaming headset is ideal for those who prefer a more versatile gaming headset as well as those who don’t like the idea of having to charge their peripherals. It’s also, of course, ideal for gamers who want to save a few bucks without having to sacrifice too many premium features in their headset.

The 3.5mm cable is long enough to ensure that I’m not catching it on my computer or my desk when I move around or tripping over it when I get up. The headset also comes with an additional Y-splitter for separating the audio and microphone inputs. The wired headset is super versatile in that it can be used for any compatible console, PC, Mac, or mobile device. The fact that it is wired allows for an easy plug and play experience with no need to download any complicated drivers or software to get the full experience.

Style it your way

I’ll admit, I’m a sucker for gaming gear that looks colourful and cool. When it comes to style, Logitech’s G335 wired gaming headset has it in spades. The headset looks very similar to the G733 and forms part of Logitech’s Colour Collection. Logitech sent me the white version of the headset, but there’s also a black variant (the third colour variant, Mint, sadly isn’t available in SA). Adding some super fun colour options is a customisable suspension headband. The colourful adjustable headband strap adds to the modern, edgy look of the headset while also helping to ensure a snug fit.

The white version of the headset comes pre-fitted with a colourful blue-orange coloured ‘Blue Blip’ headband strap and the black version with a plum-blue coloured ‘Purple Blip’ headband strap. Similarly to the G733, the G335’s vibrant headband strap is reversible, removable, and interchangeable; allowing you to adjust its position for a better fit and switch it out for another colour to add a touch of customisation to your headset. The headbands are available to buy separately in five different colours including black, lime, purple, mint, and orange.

If, like me, you love to personalise almost anything and everything, then these will be right up your alley. Of course, the headband doesn’t just look cool, it also provides a great amount of cushioning to allow for extended use with no fatigue. But the personalised fun doesn’t stop there, gamers can further customise their looks with a collection of vibrant mic covers for the headset’s built-in microphone.

Long-wearing comfort

The G335 also sets a new standard in lightweight wired headsets. Weighing just 240 grams, it’s lighter than its premium counterpart (which weighs 278 grams) and it feels as light as a feather on your noggin. You barely feel the headset on your head, even when you’re wearing it for long periods of time during an epic gaming session.

Adding to the comfort of this headset is the cloth cups on each earpiece. The G335 has slimmer earpads than the memory foam versions you get with the G733. But, they’re still very comfortable, and the smaller earcups mean you get a lower profile when wearing the headset. The ear cups slide up and down to accommodate different head sizes and ensure your headset is sitting just right. The earcups fit over your ears, not on your ears, so they feel soft and comfortable at all times. Thanks to the G335’s lightweight feel and great fit, I didn’t experience any fatigue from wearing the headset even for long gaming stints.

Logitech’s G335 wired gaming headset may be light, but it feels sturdy and has great durability. The quality doesn’t come across as cheap or flimsy, and they should last you a few good years before you feel the urge to upgrade. Logitech was able to make the headset so light thanks to the post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR) used to manufacture the product. Using this recycled plastic material is all part of Logitech’s effort to reduce its carbon impact and increase the circularity of consumer products.

Of course, the real test of any good gaming headset is the sound. The sound quality of the G335 is really good compared to the more expensive wireless G733 version. Logitech is known for offering customers excellent audio quality with its headsets and the G335 does not disappoint. Fitted with 40 mm neodymium drivers, the G335 delivers crisp, clear sound to really make games come alive. The headset, along with a built-in Discord Certified microphone, offers amazing sound and voice clarity and is just as capable whether you’re leading your platoon to victory or signing in for a Zoom call with your boss.

The microphone boom arm is bendable, enabling you to adjust it to suit your needs, and the flip-to-mute feature allows you to quickly mute the mic simply by flipping it up to store it away alongside the earpiece. In terms of volume and sound control, the microphone boom and volume control roller can be found on the back bottom side of the left earcup for easy access.

Should you buy the Logitech G335 wired gaming headset?

Bottom line, the G335 is essentially a wired version of the G733, except it’s even lighter and more than half the price of its wireless counterpart. Sure, you miss out on a few fancy lights and premium features here and there, but this lightweight wonder offers more than enough to get excited about at this very reasonable price point.

This wired gaming headset offers great audio performance at an affordable price that gamers on a budget will love.
