Logitech Pebble M350 Review: A Slim & Silent Mouse for Working On-The-Go
We get our mitts on Logitech’s beautifully minimal mouse!
Are you in the market for a slim, lightweight and aesthetically pleasing mouse? The Logitech Pebble M350 ticks all the boxes for a minimalist clicker and could be just the gadget you’re looking for. This sleek mouse is ideal for anyone working from home or who frequently works on the go in coffee shops, airports, and co-working hubs where you don’t want to be too disruptive to those around you, but don’t mind catching their eye with its slick design.
The Pebble just looks cool and has an aesthetically pleasing rounded shape, resembling a pebble you’d pick up on a river bed, hence the name. It’s incredibly light at just 100g, and is powered by a single AA battery, which Logitech says can last for up to 18 months before it needs replacing (yes, 18 months!). I usually prefer a wireless mouse with a built-in rechargeable battery (because who has time to keep switching batteries), but if I only have to replace the battery once a year or less, you can count me in! Of course, its working life will depend on how much you use the mouse. There’s a power switch on the underside of the Pebble, that allows you to save power when it’s not in use or if it’s packed away when travelling.
Measuring just 59 mm (width), 26.5 mm (height), and 10.7 mm (depth), the Pebble is one of the slimmest mouses I’ve ever used. The wireless mouse fits easily into the palm of my hand, and it’s a joy to travel with. Forget that unsightly, annoying mouse bulge protruding from your laptop bag, the Pebble’s slim form design means it easily slips into my laptop bag’s front pouch for easy access when I need it.
Thanks to the rise of Pinterest and Instagram inspiration, desk aesthetics is a big thing with many people striving to have a workspace that looks sophisticated and chic. The Pebble M350 mouse slots right into that desire with a range of chic muted pastel tones with a matte finish to complement your workspace. The mouse is available in 3 colours in South Africa: Graphite (black), Rose (a beautiful dusty pastel pink), and Off-white.
Let’s talk specs
Not just a pretty, face, the Pebble also offers a few desirable features you’re sure to love. Keep in mind, this is a basic mouse designed for those looking for a minimalist approach. You won’t get fancy features like multi-pairing or forward and back buttons, but it does offer everything you need to get the job done. It has two main buttons and a soft scroll wheel, that also works as a third button, which all feature Logitech’s SilentTouch technology. And, that’s where this little critter really shines. The beautiful silence of it all.
Logitech says SilentTouch reduces the clicking sound of the mouse by about 90 percent and boy is it silent. The buttons and scroll wheel are exceptionally quiet when in use and are virtually inaudible to anyone else in the room. It’s not completely silent, but, instead of hearing the loud “click-clack” of mouse buttons and the “whir” of the mouse wheel, with the Pebble, you hear a faint “tick” sound from the buttons and the mouse wheel is pretty much non-existent when scrolling.
The mouse takes a little bit of getting used to at first, but after a day of use, I was up to speed, and it became a real joy to use. The amount of play and travel in the buttons is good, and you get a pleasant spongey feedback feel when you click. The Pebble is also slightly raised at the back to give the user a more natural wrist position. This was the first thing that stood out to me about the Pebble. My wrist feels so comfortable and natural when using this, and I get no wrist fatigue when I’m using it for long periods at a time. Of course, I have small lady digits, so those with larger hands may want to consider a slightly bigger option.
Getting connected
Rather interestingly, the Pebble comes with two connection options, and you can choose to pair it to your laptop using the supplied 2.4 GHz wireless dongle or opt to use it in Bluetooth mode instead. The Bluetooth dongle fits snuggly inside the body of the mouse, next to the battery. and can be accessed by lifting the top magnetic panel.
The choice of connection modes makes it ideal for use with laptops that don’t have regular USB A ports to accommodate the little Logitech wireless dongle, or those with limited ports. What’s more, the Pebble also works with Logitech’s range of Unifying wireless receivers, so you can pair it up with a Logitech keyboard or other input device all through one receiver to limit the amount of stuff you have plugged into your laptop. Logitech Unifying wireless receivers can handle up to six devices with one little wireless dongle, and if that’s not the epitome of minimalist living, then I don’t know what is.
The Pebble also boasts high precision optical tracking sensor technology and 1,000 dpi sensor resolution, giving you the freedom to glide to your heart’s content on almost any surface. I didn’t face any problems while using the mouse with either of the connection modes and the scroll speed of the Pebble is responsive and steady.
Should you add the Logitech Pebble M350 to your cart?
The Pebble M350 retails for R649 and is a great fit for anyone looking for a lightweight, compact mouse with an ergonomic design and a chic look. It’s large enough to be comfortable for most sizes of hands, but also small and light enough to make it a genuine delight to use. Plus, the low-decibel almost silent operation makes it a must for working from home or when travelling. With its dual Bluetooth functions, the Pebble is an incredibly versatile little device that won’t disappoint.
It may be a little too small and simple for those who do a lot of mouse-heavy creative work like video-editing, graphic design, or photo editing. In that case, you’re better off looking for a bigger mouse with more high-tech features, but do expect to pay more.
The Logitech Pebble M350 is available in white, black, and pink colours from Incredible Connection, Computer Mania and Takealot.com. For more information on the Logitech Pebble M350 visit the Logitech South Africa website here.
