It was no secret that Sony was working on a portable Playstation device, but what exactly it was and what features it had were a mystery since its initial reveal. Playstation has now opened the lid on the Playstation Portal, giving gamers a closer-look at what their new device will deliver to PS5 owners.

Firstly, it’s fair to say that the Playstation Portal is a companion device, and not a self-standing machine. What this means is that, in a nutshell, the Playstation Portal acts as a portable screen and controller which the Playstation 5 console can ‘cast’ to. This essentially means that the Playstation Portal is a device dedicated to enhance the PS5’s remote play capability.

What makes it special though is that the Portal brings the PS5 experience to the palm of your hand. It includes the key features of the DualSense wireless controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. The left and right side of the DualSense controller is mounted to a vibrant 8-inch LCD screen capable of 1080p resolution at 60fps.

Playstation says that the Playstation Portal is “the perfect device for gamers in households where they might need to share their living room TV or simply want to play PS5 games in another room of the house.”

PlayStation Portal will connect remotely to your PS5 over Wi-Fi, so you’ll be able to swiftly jump from playing on your PS5 to your Playstation Portal. It also includes a 3.5mm audio jack for wired audio. PS VR2 games, which require the headset, and games that are streamed through PlayStation Plus Premium’s cloud streaming, are not supported.
