Trek has always been on the cutting-edge of bicycle technology, and the company is jumping aboard the electric-powered bandwagon with the new Powerfly range of electric-assisted e-bikes, giving those who need a little more oomph, some assistance for the rugged terrain out there.

The Powerfly uses a Removable Integrated Battery (RIB) system to derive its power; which is a Bosch 500Wh PowerTube battery that fits easily into the downtube of the frame. The design, using a user-friendly interface, one-piece cover, and built-in handle, allows for easy access to the battery compartment, so installation isn’t a pain to navigate.

The overall specs of their frames have also received a significant upgrade over the line’s predecessors; with more robust forks and 4-piston brakes being the most eye-catching of the improvements, along with tougher tyres. The whole line uses Bosch Performances CX motors specifically designed for more rugged, off-road use.

The line, which features bikes ranged from R65,000-R80,000, comes in a few models depending on how spec’d out an individual wants their bike to be, and you can find the full range with more insightful breakdowns here at their site.

If you’re looking to upgrade your MTB ride, take a look at Trek’s new e-bike variants first – they might just offer the change you’ve been looking for.
