It’s 2023 – and R200 isn’t what it used to be. Getting a great gaming experience for the weekend can hurt one’s wallet, but we’ve highlighted 5 Xbox games that won’t break the bank and are worth checking out if you’re yet to play them.

Anthem

Price: R49

Anthem may not have set the world on fire as Bioware may have hoped, but there is a decent action shooter beneath the superfluous online elements that casual gamers can enjoy. And say what you want, but for R49 on Xbox One, it’s a pretty cheap weekend or two of enjoyment.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Price: R199

Even with some incredibly minor visual hiccups, Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the most enjoyable and true-to-form superhero games out there; not to mention that it manages to set a new standard for AI companions thanks to some majestic dialogue writing and emphasis on teamwork.

Assassin’s Creed 3: Remastered

Price: R199

Currently on special, the remastered version of Assasin’s Creed III is a great pick-up for anyone who never got around to playing Ubisoft’s third instalment. It’s one of the most interesting time periods in the franchise (set in the late 1700s during the American Revolutionary War) and features some of the slickest combat and trickiest assassination missions in the series.

The Quarry

Price: R199

If you’re a fan of slasher flicks, teen horror movies, and 80s and 90s horror icons, you’d be hard-pressed to find anything more suitable and fitting than Supermassive Games’ The Quarry in your gaming library, delivering all the gore, screams, and sinister villains that go with the genre, while throwing you into the mix as you participate in how the whole ordeal plays out.

Kingdom Hearts 3

Price: R199

The first game set an exceptionally high bar for what an action RPG could be, and it’s no exaggeration to say that trend continues and is brought to new heights in KH III. By its own immense standards, some minor gripes could be levelled at the story or elements of the combat, but what the game gets right significantly outweighs any shaky pieces that leave something to be desired.
