Gears of War 5

The colossal gaming expo that is E3 always brings with it a slew of new game announcements, and to highlight the best of the bunch, we’ve rounded up the 5 biggest that you need to know about:

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

It was inevitable that a new Assassin’s Creed game was in the works for a 2018 release, but we had no idea it would be headed to ancient Greece. Well, Ubisoft unveiled the next entry in the beloved stab-’em-up franchise, which takes players to the oldest period of the series so far, playing as ancient assassin Alexios or Kassandra in 431 BC. It’s more of what we’ve come to love from the series, but it’s also clear that Odyssey will be more in line with the previous title, Origins, and be the most RPG-focused Assassin’s Creed game to date. Along with a deeper story and combat mechanics, the game will also feature interactive dialogue trees and the chance to participate in massive battles of up to 300 soldiers.

Devil May Cry 5

Devil May Cry is back, and picking up where the fourth game left off, letting players take control of the iconic demon-hunters Dante and Nero once more. It’s unclear whether this new instalment takes into account 2013’s DmC as cannon, but Capcom appears to be focusing on the core franchise narrative once more. What we do know is that acrobatic gunplay, slicing and dicing monsters, and attitude aplenty will be present.

Fallout 76

Fallout 76 was teased leading up to E3, but no one knew exactly what this mysterious Bethesda game. Well, we now know. Fallout 76 will be a new multiplayer-centric action-RPG set in the familiar Fallout world, where players can team up with other wasteland survivors, or hunt down other notable players in order to nab their loot and increase their own survival chances. It looks to be a lot of fun that captures the classic Fallout tone, albeit with some new friends by your side.

Gears of War 5

Microsoft’s juggernaut Gears of War franchise continues to roll ahead, with a fifth primary instalment bring announced for Xbox One and PC. Shifting away from the characters of Marcus and JD Fenix (who headed up previous Gears titles), Gears 5 features a female lead for the first time. Players will take on the role of Kait, who ignores the chain of command to take her squad on a mission of more personal importance.

The Elder Scrolls 6

Probably the most elusive announcement of the show, but by no means the least significant. Bethesda announced the next entry into the fan-beloved Elder Scrolls series, which will aim to succeed its award-winning predecessor, Skyrim, in more ways than one.
