We’re at the midway point of 2023, and while we’ve already been treated to some stellar games this calendar year, there’s a whole lot more on the cards. July brings some prehistoric chaos, mercenary action, and a healthy dose of nostalgic face-punching. Here are the games to look out for in July 2023:

Exoprimal

Release date: 14 July 2023 (Xbox Series X/S | PS5 | Xbox One | PS4 | PC)

If you’ve looked at the squad-shooter space and thought: where are the dinosaurs? Well, you’re in luck. Exoprimal is a four-player co-op horde shooter where you hop into some gnarly exoskeleton mech suits and battle tons of raptors, genetically modified T-rexes, and more monstrosities.

Jagged Alliance 3

Release date: 14 July 2023 (PC)

Believe it or not, Jagged Alliance 3 has been in development for 20 years after first being announced back in 2004. The turn-based isometric tactical action game will appeal to those who loved the original Fallout and X-COM titles. You control a squad of mercenaries, each with their own unique backstories and personalities, as you tackle tricky situations and do-or-die gun battles throughout the fictional country of Grand Chien. You can customise weapons, strategies, and abilities to wiggle the game to your liking as you fight your way through the battle-scarred map.

Gylt

Release date: 6 July 2023 (PC | Xbox Series X/S | PS5 | Xbox One | PS4)

Another interesting title this month is Gylt, a 3D adventure game featuring puzzles, stealth, and a bit of action, set in an eerie story mixing fantasy and reality in a surrealist place where your nightmares become reality. Players have to hide from terrible creatures or confront them as you find your way through the challenges of this wicked world.

Remnant 2

Release date: 25 July 2023 (Xbox Series X/S | PS5 | PC)

2019’s shooter/slasher RPG Remnant: From the Ashes was a surprise hit, and its sequel is arriving in July. The game basically tasks you with taking on hordes of enemies and grotesque monsters, and features a mix of methodical and frenetic ranged/melee combat. Players can choose specific gear and weapons to optimise for the different biomes and enemy challenges, and you can also team-up to play through the game in co-op.

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons

Release date: 27 July 2023 (Xbox Series X/S | PS5 | Xbox One | PS4 | PC)

And for those looking for some retro beat-’em-up action, the Double Dragon brothers return in this fresh addition to the iconic franchise. With roguelite elements, every playthrough will be different, and you have the ability to take on the street punks in co-op playing as a number of different characters each with their own special moves and unique playstyles.
