It’s 2023 – and R200 isn’t what it used to be. Getting a great gaming experience for the weekend can hurt one’s wallet, but we’ve highlighted 5 Playstation games that won’t break the bank and are worth checking out if you’re yet to play them.

Resident Evil: Revelations

Price: R131.60

Easily one of the most overlooked yet best Resident Evil entries is that of Resident Evil: Revelations, and any RE fan who hasn’t played it yet should dive in. Starting originally as a Nintendo 3DS game back in 2012, the game got an overhaul and was ported to the PS4 in 2017 and doesn’t feel dated or out of place on newer hardware. The game takes place between Resident Evil 4 and 5, following franchise staples Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield as they infiltrate a seemingly abandoned cruise ship. Things go south as you might expect, and all sorts of nautical nasties emerge from the depths to try and murder Jill and Chris. The enemy variety is a little on the recurring side of things, but Revelations throws a unique setting, interesting scenarios, and the classic Resident Evil cheese you love and expect from the series.

Marvel’s Avengers

Price: R134.85

Marvel’s Avengers may not have been the big smash hit that Crystal Dynamic had envisioned, but with all the hype and complaints about its shoehorned multiplayer elements having calmed down, there is still an enjoyable single-player Avengers game to enjoy. Being able to fly like Iron Man, smash like Hulk, and wield Mjölnir like Thor; while immersing yourself in a new story full of lore and emotional beats, Avengers isn’t the greatest superhero game ever made, but it’s a fun couple of hours, especially at a discounted price-tag.

Resident Evil 2 Remake

Price: R179.75

Yeah, we have two Resident Evil games on this list, because, well, we can. Resident Evil 2 is a stellar remake of the fan-beloved original, capturing the aura of the Playstation classic while reinvigorating the setting with new visuals, gameplay mechanics, and current-gen triple-A quality, making it not only one of the best remakes ever, but one of the best survival-horror games that you can get your hands on.

Mortal Kombat 11

Price: R159.80

It seems like all the iconic fighting franchises are back with a flurry this generation, but it’s Mortal Kombat which always seems to raise the bar in terms of pure entertainment value and offering a deep yet accessible package for all types of fighting-fans to enjoy. Mortal Kombat 11 is a joy to play, even when you’re wincing at the sight of Scorpion kicking his throwing-spear through the skull of his opponent.

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint

Price: R187.35

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is an underrated gem that should be played by all tactical shooter fans. The intriguing open-world, involvement of John Bernthal (The Punisher) as a captivating villain, and some amazing survival mechanics make playing through Breakpoint a joy. Furthermore, the game has received some great updates over the years, with AI teammates and a whole load of other features being added too.

I love Playstation games and I always find myself looking for new ones to buy. Some of my favourites are the Uncharted games and the Killzone games. I think that any Playstation game under R200 is a great deal.
