5 Hottest Games of April 2023
Check out the biggest games that are heading your way in April 2023.
With the first quarter of 2023 already delivering some must-play releases, Q2 has a tough task to topple the first batch of games for the year. Thankfully, there are some exciting releases to keep tabs on, including the resurrection of a dormant golf franchise, a long-in-development zombie sequel, and a Star Wars game that will entice anyone with a penchant for adventure.
EA Sports PGA Tour
Release date: 7 April (PS5 | Xbox Series X/S | PC)
After a few years out of the game, EA Sports is back to try and take back the golf crown from the brilliant PGA 2K series with their own spin, EA Sports PGA Tour. The game introduces several new features such as a new gameplay system called Pure Strike, which incorporates parts of a golf shot. It also features integration with ShotLink, the PGA Tour’s statistics tool as well as TrackMan. Alongside 30 courses at release, playable tour players include Cameron Champ, Tony Finau, Nelly Korda, Hideki Matsuyama, Xander Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, Im Sung-jae and Lexi Thompson.
Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened
Release date: 11 April 2023 (PS5 | Xbox Series X/S | PS4 | Xbox One | Switch | PC)
Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is a remake of the 2007 Sherlock Holmes entry that helped kickstart the franchise in the modern era. Similar to other games in the series, you take control of the famed investigator to solve a nerve-wracking Lovecraftian adventure, using your detective skills to observe crime-scenes, analyse evidence, and even indulge in some light combat.
Ghostwire: Tokyo
Release date: 12 April 2023 (Xbox Series X/S | Already on: PS5)
After releasing on PS5 in 2022, Ghostwire: Tokyo, from Tango Gameworks (the studio that was behind The Evil Within series) arrives on Xbox this April. It’s a first-person supernatural action-horror game set in Japan that sees players having to harness a wealth of powers to deal with the invading evil forces. It’s weird, the combat is interesting, and it provides some mind-bending moments that only Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and his team know how to deliver.
Dead Island 2
Release date: 21 April 2023 (PS5 | Xbox Series X/S | PS4 | Xbox One | PC)
After years in development hell, Dead Island 2 will see its release in April 2023. The sequel moves the action to Los Angeles, and brings with it all the stylish, vibrant, and gory first-person melee combat that made the first game such a huge success. In addition to a bigger world, new enemies, and a darker sense of humour, Dead Island 2 also features an admittedly impressive gore and dismemberment system, showing the most detailed flesh wounds we’ve seen in the genre.
Star Wars: Jedi Survivor
Release date: 28 April 2023 (PS5 | Xbox Series X/S | PC)
Respawn Entertainment is delivering the sequel to 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and picks up five years after the events of the previous game. Cal must stay one step ahead of the Empire’s constant pursuit as he continues to feel the weight of being one of the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy. Combat has been reworked, with new lightsaber stances, mounts to use, and of course, some tricky new enemies to fight.
