5 Hottest Games of September 2020
Which games should you keep your eyes out for this September?
September 2020 is a biggie! Not only are we finally getting a game to capture the excitement of the Avengers, but we’re also getting a serious hit of nostalgia in the form of two returning gaming stalwarts. Check out our picks for the biggest games hitting consoles and PCs in September 2020:
Marvel’s Avengers
Release date: 4 September 2020 (Xbox One | PS4 | PC)
[fvplayer id=”189″]
Developed by Crystal Dynamics (who handled the brilliant rebooted Tomb Raider series), Marvel’s Avengers is the third-person action-adventure superhero team-up game we’ve been waiting for, and stars Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor in an all-new story, which picks up during a devastating attack that results in the Avengers disbanding. Five years later, with all superheroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is for Kamala Kahn to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. While the key focus of Marvel’s Avengers is the narrative and cinematic gameplay, the game also incorporates online multiplayer for some co-op action; but it all ties together and blends quite seamlessly. We managed to play a number of campaign and multiplayer missions during the game’s closed beta, and put our thoughts in our Marvel’s Avengers hands-on preview. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2
Release date: 4 September 2020 (Xbox One | PS4 | PC)
[fvplayer id=”190″]
Do we have rose-tinted glasses on when it comes to Tony Hawk’s iconic Pro Skater entries, or were they really as good as we remember them? Well, Vicarious Visions (who have managed to successfully remake the recent Crash Bandicoot trilogy and Spyro the Dragon series), have McTwisted the old games into one rebuilt-from-the-ground up experience. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is a full remake of the series, but brings back the original levels, skaters, tricks, modes, and songs from the iconic soundtrack, as well as adding online multiplayer. The game features the full roster of original skaters, including Steve Caballero, Geoff Rowley, Bucky Lasek, Bob Burnquist, Eric Koston, Rodney Mullen, Jamie Thomas, Rune Glifberg, Chad Muska… and of course, Tony Hawk, among the other stalwarts.
Crysis Remastered
Release date: 18 September 2020 (Xbox One | PS4 | PC)
[fvplayer id=”191″]
One of the best-looking games of all time is making its return to current-gen consoles and PCs to put their graphical capabilities to the test. Crysis Remastered is the revitalisation of Crytek’s breakout hit from 2007, but with new graphic features, high-quality textures, and the Cryengine’s native hardware and ray tracing solution to update the game with some spiffy new visuals. It’s a fantastic FPS romp with some incredibly-fun superpower abilities, and we can’t wait to jump back in and activate Maximum Strength.
WWE 2K Battlegrounds
Release date: 18 September 2020 (Xbox One | PS4 | Switch | PC)
[fvplayer id=”192″]
Instead of another by-the-numbers wrestling game, WWE 2K Battlegrounds is an all-new, over the top, in-your-face arcade action brawler, allowing you to take control of your favourite WWE Superstars and Legends to battle it out in outlandish interactive environments. All the beloved match-types are there (Steel-cage, Royal Rumble, Tag-Team, etc), mixed in with an arsenal of exaggerated manoeuvres, special abilities, and devastating power-ups. So, whether you want to raise some hell with Stone Cold Steve Austin, or lay the SmackDown with the Attitude Era version of The Rock, Battlegrounds should scratch that spandex-clad itch.
Mafia: Definitive Edition
Release date: 25 September 2020 (Xbox One | PS4 | PC)
[fvplayer id=”193″]
Mafia: Definitive Edition is a rebuilt-from-the-ground-up remake of the original Mafia, complete with an updated script filled with rich new dialogue, expanded backstories, and additional cutscenes. It is also running on the same stellar game engine that powered Mafia III’s impressive cinematics; so expect a nostalgic yet fresh take on the beloved mob-story classic.
