5 New Games You Need to Play in December 2024

We’re almost at the tail-end of 2024, and before the festive and holiday season kick-off, there are a number of new game releases to keep your eye out for, including a Marvel-themed fight-fest, a nostalgia-inducing adventure, and a retro revival. Here are the video game picks for this December:

Marvel Rivals

Release date: 6 December 2024 (PS5 | Xbox Series X/S | PC)

There are a lot of PvP arena multiplayer shooters on the market, but Marvel Rivals looks to be bringing something a little extra to the genre. Obviously leaning into the superhero team-based aspect, Rivals allows players to assemble an all-star Marvel squad, devise countless strategies by combining powers to form unique Team-Up skills and fight in destructible, ever-changing battlefields across the continually evolving Marvel universe.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

Release date: 9 December 2024 (Xbox Series X/S | PC)

Coming from Mahince Games, the team behind the brilliant Wolfenstein: The New Order, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a melee-and-stealth FPS adventure featuring the likeness and voice-work of Harrison Ford in a whole new globe-spanning romp. You’ll have to fight baddies, solve puzzles, dodge obstacles, and a host of other things you’d expect in an Indy game.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered

Release date: 10 December 2024 (PS5 | Xbox Series X/S | PS4 | Xbox One | Switch | PC)

The beloved Legacy of Kain spin-off games from yesteryear are getting remastered, with new visuals, audio, and quality-of-life features. If you’ve never played the Soul Reaver games, they’re basically really enjoyable action-adventure titles where you play as a resurrected vampire. You have to fight enemies with vampiric abilities, platform across tricky levels, and solve puzzles using an ability to shift between realms.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind

Release date: 10 December 2024 (PS5 | Xbox Series X/S | PS4 | Xbox One | Switch | PC)

Retro-inspired 2D brawlers are back, and the latest IP to get one is Power Rangers. In Rita’s Rewind, you’ll pick your favourite Ranger and fight your way through classic levels from the TV show, battle iconic bad guys and bosses, and, of course, team-up in co-op if you want a friend to join in on the mighty morphin’ action.

On Your Tail

Release date: 16 December 2024 (PC)

For a change of pace, On Your Tail is a fantastic-looking investigation game, where you play as an animal detective who is trying to uncover a dark secret of the tropical town of Borgo Marina. Befriend the locals, find clues, and play your cards right to uncover the town’s secrets in this story-driven adventure.
