It’s 2023 – and R200 isn’t what it used to be. Getting a great gaming experience for the weekend can hurt one’s wallet, but we’ve highlighted 6 games that won’t break the bank and are worth checking out if you’re yet to play them.

Alan Wake Remastered (PS4 | PS5) – R148.17 (Playstation Store)

Before Alan Wake 2 arrives this October, you can jump back into the remastered version of the 2010 action-horror classic. The remaster maintains the core gameplay and narrative elements of the original game but improves the visuals for newer systems with support for 4K resolutions. It’s a great Stephen King-inspired adventure that is well worth a playthrough.

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint (PS4 | PS5) – R187.35 (Playstation Store)

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is an underrated gem that should be played by all tactical shooter fans. The intriguing open-world, involvement of John Bernthal (The Punisher) as a captivating villain, and some amazing survival mechanics make playing through Breakpoint a joy. Furthermore, the game has received some great updates over the years, with AI teammates and a whole load of other features being added too.

Gears 5 (Xbox One | Xbox Series X) – R179.70 (Xbox Marketplace)

Gears 5 is an absolute stunner of a third-person shooter, pushing the story of the Gears of War universe forward and providing some interesting gameplay tweaks to the formula. If you missed it when it came out, now is your chance to grab it for a great price.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (Xbox One | Xbox Series X) – R40.35 (Xbox Marketplace)

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is a stellar action game from Ninja Theory, the team behind the fantastic DmC: Devil May Cry and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. It follows Senua as she embarks on a journey through a twisted Norse hell; and it’s brutal, slick, innovative, and a must-play.

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition (PC) – R39.90 (Steam)

We can’t recommend the under-appreciated open-world crime game, Sleeping Dogs, enough, and the fact that the remastered version is going for less than R100 makes it a no-brainer. The game’s story follows Wei Shen, an undercover Chinese-American police officer on assignment to infiltrate the Sun On Yee Triad organisation. Much like a faster, kung-fu injected Grand Theft Auto, gameplay centres on Shen’s fighting, shooting and parkour abilities, and on gadgets that can be used for combat and exploration.

Superhot (PC) – R59.70 (Steam)

“Time moves only when you move.” That’s the gist of Superhot, a stylish first-person shooter that is dynamically paced, strategic, and endlessly enjoyable. It has the concept to match its unique looks, and it’s worth getting in your sights.
