Games of June 2020

The month of June has arrived, and it brings with it a slew of new games to ease us into the colder months we’re destined for down here in the good ole Republic. Thankfully, we’ve got some big-name sequels, interesting new IPs, and remasters to keep us warm.

Valorant

Release date: 2 June 2020 (PC)

Free-to-play shooters have surged in popularity thanks to the likes of Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, and PUBG, but a new hero-shooter is joining the party. Valorant plays out like a fast and frantic FPS, but utilises hero-like characters, each with their own supernatural ability, in order to get the upper-hand on the battlefield. The art-style and visuals are fantastic too, and if the initial impressions are anything to go by, this is looking to shake up the online shooter scene.

Command & Conquer Remastered Collection

Release date: 5 June 2020 (PC)

[fvplayer id=”98″]

90s kids with a fond love of strategy games will be ecstatic to know that a remastered version of Command & Conquer and Command & Conquer: Red Alert are seeing a release in June. Being spiffed-up with 4K visuals, players at any time can also tap a single key to smoothly toggle between the original assets at 320 x 200, to the Remastered assets up to 3840 x 2160. The FMV cut-scenes have also been reworked to give more clarity from their pixellated 1995 originals.

The Outer Worlds

Release date: 5 June 2020(Switch | Already on: PS4 | Xbox One| PC) | Find the best price on The  Outer Worlds here.

One of 2019’s breakout hits, The Outer Worlds, is coming to Switch. As we explained in our initial review last year: “The Outer Worlds, while familiar, is oozing with its own personality and turns the cumbersome RPG grind into a fun, entertaining, and light-hearted experience which will appeal to those who love the genre but find themselves bogged down by all the excessive padding many of those games tend to have.”

Desperados III

Release date: 16 June 2020 (PS4 | Xbox One | PC)

[fvplayer id=”100″]

Desperados III is a story-driven, hardcore tactical stealth game, set in a ruthless Wild West scenario. You can take control of a number of unique characters in your gang to utilise their individual skill-sets to tackle the various shootouts, sneak-attacks, or heists. A good plan can make the difference between survival and finding yourself at the business end of a pistol.

Disintegration

Release date: 16 June 2020  (PS4 | Xbox One | PC)

[fvplayer id=”101″]

Somewhat of a blend between a real-time strategy game and a vehicular shooter, Disintegration allows you to pilot a heavily weaponised Gravcycle (they’re a thing in this sci-fi universe) while commanding your troops on the ground as you battle through a thrilling single-player campaign and in frenetic PvP multiplayer.

The Last of Us Part II

Release date: 19 June 2020 (PS4) | Pre-order The Last of Us Part 2 here.

[fvplayer id=”102″]

The Last of Us is easily one of the best games of the generation, being presented countless awards and accolades since its initial release back in 2013. The long-anticipated sequel arrives this month, which follows a more mature and battle-hardened Ellie as she sets out on a quest for revenge, with new stealth mechanics, trickier enemies, and emotional story-beats that’ll likely leave us in tatters.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated

Release date: 23  June 2020 (PS4 | Xbox One | PC | Switch)

[fvplayer id=”103″]

Those who love some colourful platforming action should keep their eye on the remastered (or in this case, Rehydrated) edition of the 2003 PS2 release, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom. Play as SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy – each with their own unique attacks and skills – to show the evil Plankton that crime pays even less than Mr. Krabs.
