Biggest Game Releases in SA this Week — Call of Duty: WWII & More!
Here’s what you can expect from this week’s game releases!
This week marks a release of one of the biggest games of the year, along with a host of smaller but interesting titles to get your hands on.
Call of Duty: World War II
Release date: 3 November (Xbox One, PS4, PC)
This year’s Call of Duty leaves behind the space battles, jet packs, and futuristic weaponry, in favour of a WWII shooter reminiscent of the franchise’s roots. Far more focus has been placed on the gritty, “boots on the ground” single-player campaign (which also likenesses and voice talents of Transformers‘ Josh Duhamel and Jeffrey Pierce of Justified and The Last of Us). But of course, multiplayer is always the real meat of any COD game, and WWII promises to bring the biggest and most comprehensive online component to date.

Cartoon Network Battle Crashers
Release date: 31 October (Switch); also on Xbox One, PS4, 3DS.
There’s been a lack of some classic old-school side-scrolling beat-’em-ups in recent times, but thankfully Battle Crashers gave us some of that nostalgia when the game arrived on Xbox One, PS4, and 3DS last year. Cartoon Network: Battle Crashers now lands on the Switch, and if you don’t know about it, it’s a light-hearted action game that allows players to take on the game solo or via co-op, and utilise some of Cartoon Network’s most beloved character’s unique attacks and special moves to take on bad guys, bosses and overcome environmental hazards. It looks pretty fun, and we’re interested to see if there’s something special hidden in this unassuming title.

Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back
Release date: 31 October (PS4, PC)
Back in the heyday of the 90s mascot games, an obscure title called Bubsy built a bit of a fan following. Well, a new Bubsy game, developed by Black Forest Games, arrives this week. Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back is a platformer where you, as Bubsy, must collect yarn and get your revenge on the Woolies for stealing all the yarn. The original Bubsy games were somewhat clunky and unoriginal in a few ways, and this new entry seems to be at least somewhat self aware in that regard.
