With Black Friday (and Cyber Monday) bringing in some great deals on tech, gaming, and gadgets, there are some stellar sales on some of the best video games around. We’ve hunted down 6 of the best deals that Playstation games should take note of this year:

Horizon: Forbidden West

Price: R699 (PS5) | R499 (PS4)

Horizon: Forbidden West is massive, jaw-droppingly gorgeous, challenging, and a massive step up from the previous game. Its hunting, combat, and exploration mechanics have all been refined, and an added dose of cinematic quality to the story moments makes Forbidden West one of the best games you can play on the Playstation platform. The sequel is a testament to developer Guerilla Games on their ability to take something that already exceeded expectations with Horizon: Zero Dawn, and expand on it in interesting and clever ways.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut

Price: R699

Ghost of Tsushima isn’t just visually beautiful, but extremely well structured, paced, and put together. Everything from the intricacies of authenticity in Feudal Japan to the dynamic combat is done with a meticulous level of appreciation and polish, yet the game can also be in-your-face and brutal when it needs to be. Everyone had high expectations for Sucker Punch’s samurai game ever since it was announced, and the studio did one better by completely exceeding them. The Director’s Cut includes a black-and-white mode, along with the game’s Iki Island expansion.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Price: R699 (PS5)

It’s safe to say that Insomniac don’t make bad games, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart doesn’t break that notion. Rift Apart is a beloved entry for the lombax and robot duo, who also bring with them a new playable heroine in Rivet, a counterpart of Ratchet from a different dimension. The platforming is as snappy and enjoyable as ever, the levels are whacky and quirky, the humour is Pixar-esque, and the franchise-favourite weapons are zanier than ever. Furthermore, it’s a breathtakingly beautiful game, with some amazing effects and visuals to complement its colourful art style. While the game doesn’t play too fast and hard with new mechanics, it’s more of the Ratchet & Clank action you know and love, which is definitely a good thing. A must-buy for any PS5 owner.

The Last of Us Part II

Price: R899 (PS5) | R749 (PS4)

The Last of Us: Part II will be a no-brainer of a purchase for most PS4 owners; however, the nature of the game is a harder-sell for more casual fans. Even with its brutality and mature elements, The Last of Us Part II is a must-play for every gamer, and an opus to an already-revered story. It may not inject that initial Last of Us novelty magic we first felt when booting up the original game, but it carries the torch excellently to round out a brilliant and harrowing tale of survival.

God of War: Ragnarok

Price: R899 (PS5) | R799 (PS4)

God of War: Ragnarök is a must-play for anyone who owns a PS5 or PS4, and much like the 2018 predecessor, the story is once again captivating, with some phenomenal performances from the voice and mo-cop cast to deliver gravity and emotional moments of subtlety that other games struggle to do. It very much continues to the thematic elements of the first game, focusing on Kratos’ desire to convey to his son that it’s their duty as gods to elevate themselves above their vengeful destinies; as he said in God of War (2018): “we must be better.”

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection

Price: R499 (PS5)

The spectacular Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and shamefully underappreciated spin-off Uncharted: The Lost Legacy are bundled together in the Legacy of Thieves Collection, making this a no-brainer for anyone who hasn’t played either game. Both games include some improvements from the original releases, including Fidelity Mode which allows you to play in 4K / 30fps; Performance Mode, which targets a 60fps frame rate; and Performance Plus Mode, which drops the resolution down to 1080p but offers a 120fps frame rate. These are already gorgeous-looking games and playing them on the PS5 is an absolute treat.
