3 Exciting Video Games Releasing in SA this Week
We take a look at what games are hitting local stores and online retailers this week.
As we head further into January, the gaming release schedule starts to heat up – and we have some interesting-looking games arriving this week, including the creepy return of the Resident Evil franchise, along with some other exciting titles. Here’s what you need to know about the games releasing this week, 23-27 January 2017:
Resident Evil 7
Release date: 24 January 2017 (Xbox One, PS4, PC)
After Resident Evil 6 took an all-out action approach, Resident Evil 7 brings everything back to what first defined the series: survival horror. You now explore the world from first-person, and the environments are suitably dark and dingy, recapturing the sense of dread and suspense from the earlier games. The game’s demo has already been terrifying gamers who’ve been brave enough to play it, so we’re excited to see what kind of chilling scares and first-person combat await in the full game when it releases this week.
Yakuza 0
Release date: 24 January 2017 (PS4)
Yakuza 0 serves as prequel to the fan-beloved beat-’em-up Yakuza series. It tells the origins stories of series main protagonist Kazuma Kiryu and series antagonist Goro Majima. Each man’s story sees them trying to escape an impossible situation: Kiryu trying to prove his innocence after being framed for murder and Majima trying to escape a benevolent prison.
While a prequel, Yakuza 0 enjoys all the advancements the series has made over the years with engaging combat and a multitude of side quests, activities, and mini games. To help deepen the various combat styles Majima and Kiryu can utilise is an intuitive yet complex upgrade system. The narrative is compelling to be sure, but each characters’ main side activity has its own involved narrative to enjoy.
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
Release date: 24 January 2017 (PS4)
While the wait for Kingdom Hearts III continues for some fans, they’ll at the very least get some love from the action-RPG series this week when Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue makes its way to the PlayStation 4. The compilation offers up a remastered edition of the classic Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, along with the Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover cinematic and Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth By Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage, which takes place after the Birth By Sleep events and features the perspective of Aqua. In short, it’s a pretty full package.
