This week sees the release of the highly-anticipated Fortnite, along with the re-introduction of a beloved rugby league franchise. On top of those highlights, there are also some exciting titles arriving on Nintendo’s handheld platform.

Here are our picks for the games releasing 24-28 July 2017:

Fortnite

Release date: 25 July 2017 (PS4, PC, Xbox One)

Fortnite is basically the love-child of Minecraft and Left 4 Dead. It’s a co-op sandbox survival game and is about exploration, scavenging items, crafting weapons, building fortified structures, and fighting waves of encroaching monsters, and it looks epic! Players will work together to scavenge items they can use for building by day to build their fort, and by night defend it from the zombies for 14 days hence the title Fortnite.

Rugby League Live 4

Release date: 28 July 2017 (PS4, PC, Xbox One)

While we wait for the release of Rugby 18 later this year, we do get a bit of rugby action with the release of Rugby League Live 4 this week. Rugby League Live 4 continues to build on solid foundations of past Rugby League Live games with new features including custom Logo and Stadium Creation, and the most realistic NRL player likenesses in the franchise. There are tons of new animations, a new passing system, set-plays, and kicking mechanics to the game too.

Pyre

Release date: 25 July 2017 (PS4, PC)

For those who haven’t been following the game, Pyre is an action-RPG featuring combat that feels like it’s been ripped from a sports title. Battles take place in arenas where teams of three compete to destroy their opponent’s pyre (a large column of magical flame). It’s a rather quirky concept, but given developer Supergiant’s track record (they made Bastion), chances are it will be a lot of fun to play.
