Game Releases in SA this Week — Lego Star Wars, 7 Days to Die, & More
We take a look at what games are hitting local stores and online retailers this week.
June has been incredibly busy for gaming, and as we head into the final week of the month, we see some new releases, including a blocky return for Star Wars, a zombie-packed survival romp, and an explosive sci-fi saga of epic proportions.
Here are our picks for the games releasing 27 June – 1 July 2016:
Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Release date: 28 June 2016 (Xbox One, PS4, PC, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U)
Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens is based on the seventh episode of the space family saga and its namesake, and continues the tongue-in-cheek block-busting Lego video games gameplay people have come to love. You will be able to play as Rey, Finn, Captain Phasma, Poe Dameron, Han Solo, Kylo Ren and even droids, including C-3PO and BB-8. The actors who portrayed them on the big screen – Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Anthony Daniels, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie and Max von Sydow – are all lending their voices to the game.
Apart from serving as an adaptation, the game will also bridge the gap between Ep 6: Return of the Jedi and Ep 7: The Force Awakens. If you opt for the Deluxe Edition, you will get a Season Pass and a Lego mini-figure of Finn.
7 Days to Die
Release date: 28 June 2016 (Xbox One, PS4, PC)
To everyone’s dissatisfaction, local co-op games have become a neglected focus in the gaming industry, but The Fun Pimps’ zombie shooter, 7 Days to Die, which releases this week, is fully embracing it. 7 Days to Die is an open-world zombie survival game which blends FPS, survival horror, tower defence and RPG – but best of all, it features split-screen. Online multiplayer modes are also available, but the addition of split-screen “just makes sense” according to the developers. We agree.
The Technomancer
Release date: 28 June 2016 (Xbox One, PS4, PC)
Those looking for an action RPG should keep an eye on The Technomancer, which releases this week. The Technomancer is a sci-fi RPG set on Mars, featuring dynamic combat and an epic storyline, where your choices will affect the fate of the Red Plane. Playing as a Technomancer, a formidable warrior harnessing destructive electrical powers, you’ll embark on a perilous journey across a planet torn apart by conflict and infested with mutant creatures, with the option of diplomacy, combat or trickery in your arsenal to resolve quests. Players can gain experience to level up their character, and learn new skills or upgrade perks across 4 unique skill trees. A full looting, buying, and crafting system is also available, allowing for more powerful equipment and weaponry for yourself and teammates to be built.
