Gamers are starved of quality rugby games in the market, and while we await to see how Rugby League Live 3 and the Rugby World Cup 2015 video games turn out, another game featuring the beloved oval-shaped ball is in development.

Nintendo has announced that a new Mario & Sonic Olympic Games title for both Wii U and 3DS, and if you’ve pieced two and two together by now, it is set to feature rugby sevens.

We know, it’s as bizarre as it sounds. Players will be able to select a wealth of characters from past Mario and Sonic games, form teams and play one another in the world’s fastest growing sport.

There’s no specific details on the game at this point in time, but the initial announcement trailer shows some snippets of the gameplay. Check it out below, with the sevens event popping up at the 30-second mark.
