Playstation 5 Tech Demo: Here’s Unreal Engine 5 in Action

Epic Games showcases their latest innovations coming to Unreal Engine 5.

In anticipation of the next-gen consoles – namely, the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series – arriving, developers are showcasing exactly what they’re utilising the new hardware for, and none comes more widely implemented that Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, which has been powering tons of games for years.

The latest iteration of the engine is the Unreal Engine 5, which will undoubtedly become a staple and utilised in many upcoming titles.

In the video, Epic Games’ Technical Director of Graphics, Brian Karis, and Special Projects Art Director, Jerome Platteaux, explore the two new core technologies that will debut in UE5: Nanite virtualised micropolygon geometry, which frees artists to create as much geometric detail as the eye can see, and Lumen, a fully dynamic global illumination solution that immediately reacts to scene and light changes.
