PS5 Slim: SA Price, Details, & Everything You Need to Know
Here’s everything you need to know about the Playstation 5 slim.
The Playstation 5 Slim is set for release in South Africa this April, and we’ve got everything you need to know about Sony’s streamlined console, including its price, details, and what to expect from the trimmed-down machine.
What’s new?
The biggest question people tend to have is whether the PS5 Slim is more powerful than the existing normal models. The answer is: no. Under the hood, this is exactly the same machine hardware-wise as the first generation of PS5 consoles, with a disc and digital option to boot too.
You get the same 1TB hard drive, Ryzen Zen 2 CPU, AMD Radeon RDNA 2-based graphics engine, and all the rest of it, just more neatly packed into a smaller form factor (reduced in volume by more than 30%, and weight by 18% and 24% compared to the previous models).
There are some slight design changes to the casing shell too, as there are four separate cover panels, with the top portion in a glossy look, while the bottom remains a matte finish.
Disc drive add-on for digital edition
The one notable change is that the digital version of the PS5 slim has a dedicated slot to add a Blu-ray disc drive as an add-on (if you choose to do so), which is a nice touch for those who went for the digital but changed their mind later.
Price and availability
The PS5 Slim digital edition is priced at R11,999, while the PS5 Slim disc model will retail for R13,999.
The add-on disc drive for the digital model is priced at R2,999.
