Revealed: New Gears of War, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Doom Prequel & More at the Xbox Game Show
Here are the biggest game and hardware announcements from the Xbox Showcase.
Microsoft held its Xbox Showcase, giving a look at some of the company’s biggest upcoming games, some forthcoming releases from third-party developers, as well as dropping some notable reveals for franchise entries to the Gears of War and Doom series, among others.
Here are all the most interesting reveals, announcements, and trailers from the Xbox Showcase:
New Gears of War revealed, and it’s a prequel
Dedicated Gears of War developer The Coalition released a debut trailer for the next entry into the beloved third-person shooter franchise, but instead of a much-rumoured Gears of War 6, we were surprised with a prequel to the entire series. Titled Gears of War: E Day, the next game stars Marcus Fenix and Dominque Santiago is set before the first Gears of War. It will chronicles Emergence Day, the day the Locust first attacked the humans.
A closer look at Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
After being revealed in May, Ubisoft showed off the first gameplay of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, the feudal Japanese spin on the long-running stab-’em-up franchise. The gameplay trailer gives a glimpse at the two gameplay styles players will have playing as either Naoe (a stealthy shinobi) or Yasuke (more powerful samurai).
The next Doom game is a prequel to 2016’s reboot
After 2016’s Doom and its sequel Doom Eternal, we’ll be getting a prequel in the form of Doom: The Dark Ages, which follows the demon-hunting marine in his earlier days, taking on the hordes of hell in the Middle Ages and donning medieval weapons and a furry cape, along with his trusty shotgun and a mech. Trust us, it makes sense (we swear).
A look at the campaign of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
The next Call of Duty entry goes back to the Black Ops spin-off timeline of Activision’s FPS franchise, with the characters from 2020’s Black Ops: Cold War returning for a new espionage-inspired campaign set during the Gulf War. Of course, multiplayer is back with sixteen brand-new maps at launch as well as new weapons and move-sets, including the ability to dive and fire.
Next Perfect Dark Game is a reboot
One of the more overlooked Xbox properties in recent years is the Perfect Dark franchise. The game has been due for a reboot of sorts, with many iterations being discussed over the years, but Xbox revealed that the new game will be a more cyberpunk-stealth game, and showed it off with an interesting gameplay trailer that highlights the world we can expect from the new FPS entry.
New Xbox consoles incoming
On the hardware front, Microsoft announced three new Xbox console models: a white digital-only (no disc-drive) Xbox Series X with 1TB of storage, a 1TB Xbox Series S, and a 2TB Xbox Series X with a cool galaxy-themed finish.
