After some speculation, the box art for the South African version of the upcoming Rugby 15 game has been leaked early, showing French-based South African stars on the cover.

Posted on SA Rugby magazine’s Facebook page, the leaked cover shows that Morne Steyn, Bryan Habana and Wynand Olivier all feature – all of whom have played or are currently playing for the Springboks.

Apex Interactive, local distributors for Big Ben Interactive titles, has confirmed that the game will land in November.

The cover is different to that of the European edition, which has Toulouse captain Thierry Dusautoir, Toulon flyhalf Frédéric Michalak and Clermont centre Wesley Fofana – all representatives from the French Top 14.

Rugby 15 is currently in development for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, PS Vita and PC, and will be released on 14 November 2014.

Check out the full box art below, as well as a trailer for the game and a developer diary on the commentary talent to feature in Rugby 15.

Its a bit disappointing that there are no South African rugby franchises on the South African cover. I can understand Habana being on the cover but the other two? I don’t know…

The problem is the licensing , SAFA wont allow the zar teams to get licensed its quite pathetic actually.

If they were wanting to put the Kings player’s on the cover then SARU would definitely allow the licensing!

Completely. They’d put Watson on the cover.

That would be too dope and make it like Backbreaker’s Tackle Alley. Would be so much fun bouncing people as Willie.

Not exactly sure – from what I understand, there was some comms breakdown with SARU in the past. But hopefully it can get sorted for the next instalment. If they get Super Rugby licenced, it’ll bring a lot more interest. But I’m sure excited for the game anyway – it will hopefully lead to an annual release. Then they can build on the licences from there.

It’s sad because it’s the perfect chance to opportunity to grow our rugby in such a simple way.
