Rugby Challenge 3 Confirmed, Springboks Licensed
Another entry in the Rugby Challenge franchise looks to be on the way this year.
While fans of rugby games have been rather deprived of options in the last couple of years, it appears that yet another rugby game is coming our way this year.
Rugby Challenge 3, the sequel to Sidhe’s popular Rugby Challenge series, will release in September alongside the Rugby World Cup.
This makes Rugby Challenge 3 the third rugby game coming out this year, alongside the official 2015 Rugby World Cup video game as well as Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, which will feature Sevens rugby.
News of Rugby Challenge 3 first emerged via rugby gaming Youtuber, TheScottishCannon, who emailed SARU (South African Rugby Union) asking about whether the World Cup game will feature the Springboks license. There response is below:
“SA Rugby are in the process of developing a licensed digital interactive gaming product with HES Inetractive, which will include the Springbok and Springbok Sevens national teams as well as the respective Super Rugby franchises and regional (Curre Cup) teams. The game is due to be released in September. The South African rugby teams will therefore not feature in the 2015 Rugby World Cup video game.”
HES Interactive is the holding company of Tru Blu, the official distributor of Sidhe’s Rugby Challenge franchise. This, along with the fact that the New Zealand Rugby Union also made reference to a Rugby Challenge sequel, adds more information and weight to the development of Rugby Challenge 3.
