This Gun-Fu Game Looks to Be a Blend of ‘John Wick’, ‘Dead to Rights’, and ‘Wet’

Fans of action movies and gunplay will want to take note of this upcoming Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC game.

A few games have tried to capture the shooting and close-combat action now synonymous with the John Wick films, with the most recent being Wanted: Dead, which proved to be an interesting and fun experience, but one also full of flaws.

Spine is a new single-player, story-rich experience that embraces old-school third-person shooters, but injects the intense close-quarter combat and takedowns of recent gun-fu movies.

Being developed by Banzai Games, the cyberpunk-esque game follows Redline, a female protagonist who uses an augmentation in her spine to boost her strength and reflexes to deliver some choreographic bullets to the face. For anyone who played the Dead to Rights games during the mid-2000s, there’s a lot of nostalgia here, with brutal takedowns, disarm moves, and generally violent combat.

The dual-wielding running-and-gunning will also bring back some memories of Wet, the 2008 action game which, while rough around the edges, was unlike anything else out there.

We like what we’re seeing with Spine, and hope to see a lot more of the universe, gameplay, and story as development progresses.

Spine is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
