Sony has a habit of deliberately under-stocking their launches to create more hype and demand. However, the PS5 took this to new levels with an absolute stampede of customers trying to find stock. Even well-established online sites such as Amazon struggled to process orders in a timely fashion, with people reporting items vanishing from baskets and being unable to check out.

Does this mean you should give up on the idea of getting a PS5 before Christmas? No. It won’t be easy but Sony have confirmed more PS5 stock is being released this year. The challenge is getting to the stores ahead of other gamers because there are thousands who are queuing up to buy the console.

Stay up to date on what the stores are saying, keep checking catalogues and you might be lucky.  There’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to get your hands on a PS5 before 2021 rolls around but with more stock on the way, you could be one of the fortunate ones – but you’ll have to stay on your toes!
