Tis’ the season to get excited for Christmas-themed movies and this year’s holiday movie season is shaping up to be a cracker with the release of the highly-anticipated comedy, OFFICE CHRISTMAS PARTY! Featuring a stellar cast, including the likes of Jason Bateman, TJ Miller, Olivia Munn, and Jennifer Aniston, this festive film releases in South African cinemas on 15 December 2016 and we can’t wait! So, to get you in the spirit of the movie, we’ve put together a few Dos and Dont’s of the office Christmas party. (Pssst! We’re also giving away 3 incredible Office Christmas Party movie hampers so keep reading to find out how you can win!)

In Office Christmas Party , when the CEO (Jennifer Aniston) tries to close her hard-partying brother’s branch, he (T.J. Miller) and his Chief Technical Officer (Jason Bateman) must rally their co-workers and host an epic office Christmas party in an effort to impress a potential client and close a sale that will save their jobs. The latest comedy from directors Josh Gordon and Will Speck co-stars Kate McKinnon, Olivia Munn, Jillian Bell, Rob Corddry, Vanessa Bayer, Randall Park, Sam Richardson, Jamie Chung, and Courtney B. Vance in the funniest movie of the holiday season and, if you haven’t guessed it already, insanity ensues and many of the party goers take their enjoyment a step too far. Here’s how to avoid repeating their mistakes!

Watch the trailer for Office Christmas Party here:

1. Do stay away from office gossip

Forget entangling yourself in office gossip this year and enjoy yourself instead! Similarly, confessing your sins to colleagues or clients is never sensible. Office gossip and alcohol are never a great mix so keep your conversations light and fun and you’ll have a blast! Plus, do you really want Jill from HR to know about that time you ‘borrowed’ a few extra pens from the stationary cupboard?

2. Don’t overindulge

While the  idea of free alcohol might be too hard to pass up, remember you’re still attending a work event. While you’re encouraged to be merry and enjoy yourself, you don’t want to take it too far and spend the New Year trying to live down that time you serenaded the entire accounting department with an out-of-key rendition of “I will always love you”.

3. Do Dress appropriately

While you might be tempted to put on the sassiest dress you own, the office Christmas party probably isn’t the place to wear that slinky black dress you love so much. Make sure you know what the dress code is and stick to it and, if you are really worried then speak to other people in the office about what they are wearing.

4. Don’t leave too early

Even if you’d rather be a million other places than at your office function, always stay for a reasonable amount of time, especially if there is a sit-down dinner. Leaving early may look antisocial or unappreciative of the effort the organisers and your company have put into the event. You don’t want your colleagues feeling like you don’t enjoy spending time with them (even if you don’t) as it can make for an uncomfortable work environment in the New Year.

5. Do Mingle

The end-of-year function is a great opportunity to talk to people you might not know well, perhaps that are higher up, who you have been desperate to talk to for the whole year and haven’t been able to. Use this social time to connect with other people at your office and build new relationships – you never know who you might connect with.
