Stormers hit with R229,000 fine
The Stormers will pay a hefty fine following a dispute with the assistant referee in the match against the Hurricanes in Round 11 of the 2013 Super Rugby tournament.
The Stormers have been fined A$15,000 (R229,000) by SANZAR following a break of conduct in the match against the Hurricanes in Palmerston North on 26 April 2013.
The incident in case related to the Stormers calling assistant referee Sheldon Ede-Whaitiri a “cheat”, and directing abuse and swearing towards the Kiwi ref.
Sanzar said the Stormers had breached Section 8.3 of the Sanzar Code of Conduct:
a) All persons must ensure the game is played and conducted in accordance with disciplined and sporting behaviour and acknowledge that it is not sufficient to rely solely upon the match officials to maintain those principles;
b) All persons shall not use crude or abusive language or gestures towards referees, assistant referees, match officials or spectators.
