5 Gym Bag Essentials For Every Man
Gym can be an overwhelming place.
With machines all over the place (both mechanical and human), terrible music blaring louder than should be allowed and, just to add salt to the wound, girls pushing more weight than most of us could, it’s hard to know where to get started.
So why not begin right there – at the start?
Apart from basic things like toiletries, slops for the shower and clean underwear, here are 5 other gym bag essentials every man shouldn’t leave home without:
1. The towel
Most gyms make this a prerequisite, and for good reason. Nobody likes some other bro’s sweat on his bench. Go for the ones with a zip pocket to house all your stuff while you train.
2. The water bottle
Without wanting to sound like your mom, staying hydrated during exercise is vital (funny how we all know that, yet still hit the gym sans H2O). Ditch the reused Energade bottle and opt for glass or BPA-free whenever possible.
3. The shoes
Just as you wouldn’t run in your wingtips, so you shouldn’t ignore the value of a dedicated training shoe. If you’re doing olympic lifting and/or heavy squats, you’ll want a weightlifting shoe. Otherwise, anything with a thin, flat sole with good traction will do the trick.
Check out reebok.co.za for some great options and use the coupon code BHM10 to get 10% off.
4. The logbook
This can be as simple as a basic notepad and pen. Get into the habit of tracking your workouts, including exercises, reps, sets, rest, as well as how you felt before, during and after the workout.
5. The skipping rope
A skipping rope is a great way to warm up or add some high-intensity work to the end of a session, yet most of the gym’s ones suck. Go for something with some weight behind it and make sure it’s long enough!
There you have it. Armed with the gear above, you’ll be sure to blend in with the crowd the next time you hit the gym.

Great article! Agreed with Eben, thanks for the coupon, I’ll be sure to use that bad boy. Will Bryan become a weekly feature? I follow his blog and I do believe that his articles have some great benefits for both gym bunnies and not!
