If you’re not a stranger to the internet, popular culture, or the modern world, you’ve most likely come across a mention of CBD at some point during your internet-travels.

It’s a plant extract of Cannabis which has been taking the world by storm. Whether in its scientific discoveries, wonder-drug-esque status, or groundbreaking anecdotal successes, CBD is just a hot topic in cannabis culture.

We’re going to take a look at what CBD is, and what its benefits are for guys. This might get a little scientific in parts, but don’t stress, it’s all pretty straightforward. Let’s dig in.

What is CBD?

CBD, aka Cannabidiol, is a non-intoxicating extract from the cannabis plant. It’s one of the two main chemicals in cannabis, the other being THC which we know best for producing most of the ‘high’ effect from weed.

CBD works on what is called the endocannabinoid system. Endo, meaning endogenous refers to the internal workings of our bodies, and cannabinoids refer to any chemicals which interact with this system (such as THC and CBD).

Our endocannabinoid system or ECS is responsible for a variety of functions throughout our bodies. As such, different cannabinoids are able to have an effect on systems such as sleep, appetite, pain, nausea, and more.

CBD Oil is growing rapidly in popularity, with an estimated market growth of over 500% between 2016 and 2020. There is substantial research on some effects of CBD, such as its effectiveness in treating pain, anxiety, symptoms of some psychotic conditions as well as epilepsy. However, there is far more research yet to be done on this special compound.

Now, let’s take a look at some of the benefits of CBD.

What are the Benefits of CBD Oil?

There is a range of benefits of CBD. Apart from the simple ones, such as some cannabis extracts containing amazing amounts of protein, and Omega 3 and 6; there are a whole host of benefits to CBD that people are taking it daily to gain.

Whether you’re taking a CBD Oil, cream, capsule or gummy, there are benefits to it that you might not even know about yet. The effectiveness of CBD seems to vary wildly between users. This is likely due to a combination of factors such as diet, dosage, and other cannabis intakes. CBD also has no real side-effects when compared to most conventional medicines, making it increasingly popular for self-treatment, and helping pets with various illnesses and ailments.

Health Benefits of CBD Oil for Men

CBD for Pain and Inflammation

Studies have shown that CBD can be incredibly effective in treating pain and inflammation. The most common areas to find this kind of treatment are in the areas of arthritis, muscle pain, and cluster headaches or migraines.

A huge bonus is that, for the most part, these treatments don’t come with any side effects – simply take a dose of your CBD and carry on living.

CBD is an antioxidant, and as such, has anti-inflammatory effects. In places like the joints of your limbs, this means it helps reduce pain and alleviate stiffness.

In addition, CBD produces a pain-killing effect on the brain. It’s not the same as standard pain medications which dull the pain, instead CBD reduces pain perceived by the brain – ‘distracting’ it would be an apt description of this effect.

Because of the effect CBD has on the brain, it’s been shown to be very effective in treating chronic pain of many kinds, such as migraines, cluster headaches, phantom pains, and long term muscle or bone damage.

CBD for Stress and Anxiety

CBD has also been shown in a number of studies that it’s effective in assisting with anxiety, and as such a great help for general anxiety and stress in many.

It has also been found that CBD can help treat anxious behaviour, and the chemical processes behind them, in cases such as PTSD, General Anxiety Disorder, OCD and Seasonal Depression. This, again, is with a lack of side effects, which makes the research even more promising.

CBD works in this way by affecting the serotonin receptors in our brains. These receptors are the ones which most antidepressants target, in an attempt to help regulate and restore regular function. CBD works similarly, although has a natural effect of helping these receptors send and receive signals faster, and more effectively.

In addition, CBD has shown to help neurogenesis (creation of new neurons) in the hippocampus – a part of the brain which is responsible for a number of functions from memory, cognition and more. This evidence has also been interpreted to suggest that CBD could be helpful in maintaining a healthy, young brain the older we get (as our bodies produce fewer cannabinoids as we age). This goes as far as predictions of potential Alzheimer’s treatments derived from CBD.

CBD for anxiety is best taken on an as-need basis. Where someone might take CBD three times daily for pain, with anxiety, it has been found to work best in high doses taken acutely – ie. when you’re feeling anxious, about to have a panic attack, or are about to enter a triggering environment or situation.

CBD for Appetite and Nausea

One of the most common uses for cannabis, let alone CBD, is the treatment of nausea and stimulation of appetite.

This is one of the main reasons people take cannabis products when going through chemo – apart from the cancer-fighting properties of cannabis, it’s also a great way to get your appetite, and reduce nausea, when you’re on heavy medication.

CBD’s interaction with serotonin is a large reason for its nausea-reducing properties. The acidic form, CBDa, even more so, having been shown to be a powerful anti-vomiting and anti-nausea agent.

While CBD might not give you the munchies like a joint would, it can still work wonders for your stomach. Especially if you’re on other medication that’s likely to upset your gut, or suffer from a condition which gives you chronic nausea.

CBD and Your Sex Life

This is the one everyone wants to know about, but no one wants to ask. The effects of CBD on your sex life are very much subjective, but there are a few general trends which point towards it being something to try if you’re wanting to switch things up.

Firstly, the anti-depressant and anti-anxiety effects of CBD can help with nervousness and getting you ‘in the mood’ in a pretty straightforward way. This can already be a huge help to some who have performance anxiety or similar issues surrounding sex.

Secondly, CBD lowers blood pressure, expands veins and arteries, and as a result can drive more blood flow to your genitals. This leads to increased sensitivity in those areas and the potential of looking toward treating conditions such as erectile dysfunction.

CBD for sex would probably best be taken as a tincture or body spray – there are plenty of ‘CBD Sex Sprays’ that you can buy, but you’ll have to experiment and see what works best for you and your partner.

In Conclusion

As you can see, there are plenty of benefits to CBD. Some are more proven than others, but there’s no doubt that CBD is doing a pretty great job at being possibly the closest thing to a cure-all since penicillin.

Even if you’re not interested in CBD after reading this, we’d recommend that you keep an eye on the development of the compound as well as the industry, as it’s not going to be long before it’s in every shop within a 10km radius.
