Local Brewery Creates Rooibos Beer
SA brewery changes the game with a Rooibos beer.

Stellenbosch craft brewery, Stellenbrau, based in the historic university town of Stellenbosch, has made arguably the most South African thing ever: Rooibos-infused beer.
After recently scooping top honours at an international contest in Berlin, Stellenbrau’s new Governor’s Red is set to become a favourite among South Africans and is made from the beloved tea extract and Honeybush.
“The inspiration for the new variant is to use a uniquely South African icon influence would, Rooibos, and infuse it in the brewing process so that the flavour develops throughout the maturation and not only as an addition in the flavour development stage,” explains the brewer.
Stellebrau describes the beer as “a golden coloured, lager with a wild undertone, it has a creamy head filled with distinctive floral aromas and subtle honeybush scents. It fills the palate with a crisp bitter sensation, which balances out in the Rooibos flavour and accentuates) the traditional malty character.’’
Governor’s Red is currently only available at three stockists in Stellenbosch, but look for it out when it is released further.
