Local  Kommetjie brewer VonB Craft Beer has just recently launched their second beer, the VonB Light.

Once you’ve moved past the immediately striking (and awesome) soaring eagle design on the bottle, the Light Mild Ale is a thirst-quenching beer which is low in both alcohol and calories. We can feel our abs exploding through the fat as we speak.

The medium to high carbonation light beer is described as “crisp, refreshing and full of flavour, making it a perfect session drink”, while the “fruity American hops are evident in the aroma and flavour, with a crisp mouthfeel and a well balanced aftertaste.”

The Light follows up the Southern copper alewhich the brewery previously released, and which has become a popular choice around Cape Town.

A case of 12 VonB Light is priced at R432 (R36 each), and each 440ml bottle is 3% alcohol.

Check out the recent LEague of Beers tasting episode, where the fellas got their hands on some VonB Light…

As long as they don’t cut down on taste I don’t mind.

Will they cut down on price as well? Craft beers are crazy expensive

Ya, these aren’t really that cheap. At restaurants they will be the +R40. I’d be keen to try them out.

Crafts are more expensive but you can’t look at it like that. They have smaller production runs, they have smaller premises, a smaller market. They also taste a million times better than mass produced beers.

Less sugar means here will be less alcohol but does that mean they use less wheat in the mix?

I think it’s great that the craft market is moving to lighter beers. I feel stuffed if I have more than two in a night. A light beer means I can have many more in a night. Smart thinking.
