How To Create A Casual Professional Image
Even if you have a casual dress code at work, it’s still important to look professional. Personal stylist, Tracy Gold gives us the low-down on the key items you need in your wardrobe to create a casual professional image.
There are working environments that by their very nature are casual. But let me say that casual doesn’t mean sloppy. A sloppy tee-shirt and jeans just isn’t going to give the impression that you are capable and good at what you do.
To create a good professional image, even a casual one, takes a little thought and planning beforehand. This makes it super easy to through on something and still look good.
Here are items I suggest you consider adding to your wardrobe to create a suitable casual look:
A good pair of jeans. A pair of jeans that fits you well and is simple in style, is a must have. Jeans with lots of detail, tears and rips are best left for weekend. Make sure that the length is right. I often see guys wearing jeans that are too long for them. Take the time to have them altered to avoid a sloppy look.
Well-fitted shirts. You can have fun with this one, especially if you are a creative type. Go for colour and print if it suits your personal style. The most important thing to remember is that fitted shirts always look better.
Well-fitted tee-shirts. There are tee shirts and there are tee shirts. For work, it’s a good idea to invest in good quality tee shirts that fit you well. Stay away from anything crumpled or baggy.
A good pair of casual shoes or sneakers. Your choice of shoes can make or break your look. Even sneakers brands offer dresser options. If sneakers aren’t your thing, then find a pair of comfortable shoes that works with your look.
