A villainous team-up, treachery, and family drama await us with this weekend’s big movie releases. We take a closer look at what’s hitting cinemas this Friday, 5 August 2016:

Suicide Squad

Release date: Friday, 5 August 2016

While the first half of 2016 has appraised the good guys of the superhero world, Warner Bros are moving in a slightly different direction, throwing together the most infamous DC villains for David Ayer’s take on the Suicide Squad. The film follows the likes of Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman) and Killer Croc (Adewale Akkinuoye-Agbaje), amongst others, who are forced to carry out dirty work for the government. Even Ben Affleck’s Batman from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice makes an appearance, and The Joker (Jared Leto) enter the frame, adding another arc to the bigger DC cinematic universe set to unfold over the next couple years.

Reviews haven’t been too kind to the big supervillian mash-up; we got the chance to see the film and had mixed feelings about it too. You can read our full Suicide Squad review here.
