The June movie line-up begins the sizzle of big summer movie releases in the US, meaning that we down here in the good ole Republic get a dose of blockbuster goodness with our colder climate. We’ve rounded up 5 of the most-anticipated movies to watch this June:
Bad Boys: Ride or Die
Release date: 5 June 2024
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are back in the fourth Bad Boys film, titled Bad Boys: Ride or Die. The new entry into the action franchise sees the return of Miami cops Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, as they have to clear their former Captain’s name. Joe Pantoliano (who played the beloved Captain Conrad Howard in previous entries) makes his return to the franchise too. The film is directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who helmed the previous entry, 2020’s Bad Boys For Life.
Chief of Station
Release date: 21 June 2024
Aaron Eckhart stars in this action thriller alongside Olga Kurylenko. After learning that the death of his wife was not an accident, a former CIA officer and Station Chief is forced back into the espionage underworld, teaming up with an adversary to unravel a conspiracy that challenges everything he thought he knew.
A Quiet Place: Day One
Release date: 28 June 2024
John Krasinski’s 2018 horror film A Quiet Place and its sequel were a breath of fresh air in the genre, telling the story of a family desperate to survive in a world invaded by a blind alien race that only reacts to sound. We’re finally getting to see what actually happened the day that the invasion went down with the prequel A Quiet Place: Day One. The film stars Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff and Djimon Hounsou, and is written by Krasinski and Michael Sarnoski, with Sarnoski stepping into the director’s chair for this one.
Despicable Me 4
Release date: 28 June 2024
Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, and Will Ferrell lend their voices to the fourth instalment of the Minion-packed animation sensation. Gru, the world’s favourite supervillain-turned-Anti-Villain League-agent, returns for an exciting, bold new era of mayhem, alongside his wife and fellow Anti-Villain League-agent Lucy (Wiig), their three adopted girls Margo, Edith and Agnes and the newest member to the Gru family, Gru Jr., who is intent on tormenting his dad.
Hit Man
Release date: 7 June 2024 (Netflix)
Just a few weeks after hitting the big-screen, Hit Man is making its way to Netflix in June. Directed by School of Rock‘s Richard Linklater, this action-comedy stars Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick and the upcoming Twisters) as a master of disguise who helps the New Orleans police department by posing as a hitman. Things get complicated as he tries to save a woman in need, played by Adria Arjona (Andor, Pacific Rim: Uprising).
