The movie world has some exciting releases heading our way over the next couple of months and into 2023 and 2024, but some of those releases, while big sequels are slipping under the radar. So, we’re here to give you a heads-up on some of the follow-ups on the cards:

Godzilla vs. Kong 2

Release date: March 2024

After the breakout hit that was Godzilla vs. Kong, it’s no surprise that Warner Bros. is moving ahead with more movies in the Monsterverse. The giant lizard and ginormous gorilla will once again share the big-screen with Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard returning for the sequel. The film will pick up after the events of the first entry, with Kong now king of Hollow Earth while Godzilla roams the oceans and surface. The two will likely have to forge an uneasy alliance once more to take on a whole new monstrous threat.

The Meg 2: The Trench

Release date: August 2023

Whatever you thought about giant-shark movie, The Meg, it was hard not to enjoy the overindulgence that such a creature feature brings to the big-screen. The 2018 film starring Jason Statham is getting a sequel, which will see Statham return, alongside Sienna Guillory and Cliff Curtis as they take on another submerged threat. British director Ben Wheatley is behind the follow-up, and being known for his love of dark comedy and horror, it should be the perfect blend for The Meg 2.

The Equalizer 3

Release date: September 2023

Denzel Washington’s subtle but brutal Equalizer movies have found quite the audience since the first film released back in 2014, and the third and final instalment is on the horizon with The Equalizer 3. Washington returns as former government assassin Robert McCall, finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, but discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. The cast also sees the introduction of Dakota Fanning, who Washington shared the screen with in 2004’s Man on Fire.

Star Trek 4

Release date: 2024

While still in early development stages, a fourth Star Trek film in the rebooted franchise is in the works at Paramount. Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Zachary Quinto, and the rest of the cast are poised to return (barring Anton Yelchin following his death in 2016), with WandaVision director Matt Shakman on board to helm the project. Paramount Pictures initially scheduled Star Trek 4 to release in December 2023, but, at this point, it’s a guarantee that it will be delayed into 2024.

Extraction 2

Release date: 16 June 2023

2020’s Netflix action movie Extraction was an excellent and underrated release for Chris Hemsworth and the streaming platform, but it got enough buzz to warrant a sequel which is hitting the streaming service this June. Hemsworth returns as the Australian black ops mercenary Tyler Rake, who, after barely surviving the events of the first movie, is tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.
