5 Biggest Movies Arriving in January 2020
Here’s what should be on your cinematic radar this month!

The 2020 movie season is already underway, and studios are kicking things off with some longtime favourites returning, some reboots, and a submerged horror to kick-start your heart for the new year.
Dolittle
Release date: 10 January 2020
Now that Mr. Downey Jr. is done with his Iron Man commitments, the veteran actor is taking on the new role in a reboot of Dr. Dolittle, the man gifted with extraordinary powers to understand and speak to animals. This time around, though, the film takes a bit more of a mature look at the life of the eccentric doctor, and features the voice talents of Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, Jim Broadbent, Jessie Buckley, John Cena, Harry Collett, Rami Malek, Kumail Nanjiani, and Octavia Spencer, alongside Downey Jr.
Underwater
Release date: 10 January 2020
There have been a few creatures-from-the-deep films in recent times, with 2019’s Crawl and 47 Meters Down: Uncaged reminding people why they should always be afraid to dip their toes in the water. But Underwater takes a sci-fi spin on the phobia, following a group of scientists on a drilling expedition at the bottom of the ocean who awaken some mysterious sea monsters. Directed by William Eubank (who helmed the brilliant yet underrated The Signal), the film also stars Kristen Stewart (Twilight, Charlie’s Angles), TJ Miller (Deadpool), Vincent Cassel, John Gallagher Jr., and Jessica Henwick.
1917
Release date: 17 January 2020
After winning 2 Golden Globe awards, the war-time epic 1917 is undoubtedly a must-watch this month. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Dean-Charles Chapman, and Mark Strong, the film follows two young British soldiers, Schofield and Blake, who are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers— Blake’s own brother among them.
The Grudge
Release date: 17 January 2020
Horror reboots seem to be hot properties at the moment, and 2020 sees the return of The Grudge, albeit in a whole new, reinvigorated format. Produced by Sam Raimi, the new iteration stars Andrea Riseborough and John Cho as they investigate a house haunted by a vengeful ghost.
Bad Boys For Life
Release date: 24 January 2020
Fans of foul-mouthed Miami cops Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnet will be glad to know that the first trailer for Bad Boys 3 has been released. Officially titled, Bad Boys For Life, the third instalment sees the return of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in their iconic roles, as they take on a new threat in the Miami crime underground. Directing duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are behind the sequel, who are also working on the next Beverly Hills Cop entry.
